Cover is a new performance or recording of a previously recorded commercially released songs sung by someone other than the original artist. Cover versions are those in which the singer acknowledges that they are performing a song of some other artist. In fact, whenever a person other than the original singer sings a famous song, without changing its lyrics and musical arrangement, but by giving it their own personal touch, then that amounts to a cover version. A version recording is a sound recording made of an already published song by using another voice or voices and with different musicians and arrangers.

Section 52 concerns fair dealing and thus, the provision of obtaining permission to make cover versions, being there has caused doubts and consequent litigations.
According to section 52(1)(j) the act of making records in respect of any literary, dramatic or musical work shall not constitute an infringement of copyright, if, records recording that work have previously been made by, or with the license or consent of, the owner of the copyright in the work and the person making the records has given the prescribed notice of his intention to make the records, and has paid in the prescribed manner to the owner of the copyright in the work royalties in respect of all such records to be made by him, at the rate fixed by the Copyright Board in this behalf.
Such person making the records shall not make any alterations in, or omissions from, the work, unless such alterations and omissions are reasonably necessary for the adaptation of the work to the records in
