At the Bernie Sanders rally, he used a variety of techniques while presenting to the group. I noticed when he hit key talking points in his argument; he would use his hands that would elicit a stronger reaction from the crowd. He read his audience demographics well by hitting on housing cost, minimum wage and the high cost of tuition (all very important concerns of college students). However, there were some points he made I felt to be confusing. At one point in his speech, he mentioned how Native Americans were taken advantage of in the past. He tried to say that we should follow the Native American’s lessons and live with nature (and not destroy it with fossil fuel and natural gas exploration). It seemed he used a fallacy to connect two…

Even from the earliest points in his life, Bernie Sanders has been a powerful example of bravery. Born to Polish immigrants in 1941, Sanders was not blessed with prosperous childhood years, as he grew up in a cramped Brooklyn apartment. However, during these early years the future senator and now presidential candidate began to form an interest in the political world. In an interview with the Guardian newspaper, he proclaimed, “I saw unfairness. That was the major inspiration in my politics.” (bio) Being surrounded by economic and social disparity, Sanders decided to transcend and battle his way through the obstacles presented before him. During his time at the University of Chicago, he became an active leader in the Civil Rights movement, assisting in the organization of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. Reflecting on his call to action, the senator states,…

On 26 May 2015, Bernie Sanders, a self-proclaimed Socialist Democrat, announced his candidacy for the Democratic Presidential nomination. Sanders, a junior senator from Vermont, began his political career as an officer in the University of Chicago’s chapter of the Congress of Racial Equality. In 1981 he was elected Mayor of Burlington, Vermont by a mere 10 votes. Sanders’ socialist views are not like those of Vladimir Putin or Raul Castro. For example, he believes in leveling the playing field when it comes to large companies paying their fair share of taxes, so that our government can pay a majority of the tuition for public colleges and universities. Since Sanders announced his intentions to run for president, he has lessened the gap between…
