Puffy And The Formidable Foe Summary
Review of Puffy and the Formidable Foe by Marie G. Lepkowski, Ann M. Hannon, and Margaret B. Hannon
(Reviewed by Mjgarrison)

This is an adorable book about a cat name puffy and his adventure as he hunts for a rat. During his hunt he comes upon a couple of different characters and enjoys a rest. One of the characters seems to be a kitty who he thinks he can befriend, but he gets a surprise that teaches him to be more cautious. After that he has to deal with the consequence of his mistake and make a change to ensure it doesn’t happen again.

I enjoyed the simplicity of the illustrations and feel they will relate well with the children. They are fun and the characters are cute yet I feel that they are simple enough that the children might attempt

Comic books are loved by children, despite the lack of options they have on the market today. Comics aimed for children should be made about them, so they can relate to the story similar to the method used when writing scripts for TV shows and movies. With the electronics on the market today, comic books have to compete for the spot of entertainment in a child’s eyes.…

In the essay "The joy of reading and writing: superman and me" the author discuses how the learned how to read from superman comics. What stood out to me was the fact the as a young child Alexie discovered reading by looking at the pictures and interpurting those pictures into words. It made me realize how the children's books now have so many pictures in them because of that exact reason, also the reason being that on avareage young children have a shorter attention span and need something colorful and mind stiumaliating to keep them on track. However many adults sturguule with staying on track when it comes to reading and I feel as if pictures would help with keeping adults on track while reading. I don't think its only a child matter.…

For Preschoolers 3-5 years of age, I would use pictures from the book to help children see and associate the actual name with the feeling. I would help them understand the explicit theme of this book is that feelings are neither good nor bad, they just are. Feeling need to be communicated and have names that you can learn to express the way you feel.…

The style of writing and the illustrations would make this book appealing to children. The style of writing is simple and very easy to understand for children. Also, I think the style of writing would remind children of how their grandparents speak. They could relate the way the narrator speaks to their grandparents speaking. The illustrations in the book would make the book appealing to children especially in the south because of the colors and the way the people are drawn. It has pictures of cotton fields and farmland. The colors in the book also represent the narrator’s mood and what event was going on in her life.…

The book outlines the main schemas and shows how we can support children’s learning through supporting their interests. It also outlines the combinations of different schemas we might encounter in our observations and how we can combine the different suggested play ideas. I find this book essential to our work as we often refer to the different schemas of our key children. I think it is a great basis for planning and allows us to talk to children about their interests in for instance straight lines, talking about how cars and bikes move in straight lines and how objects fall down when pushed off the table.…

Disenfranchised felons should be reintegrated into society and recover their right to vote. Disenfranchisement is the harshest civil sanction imposed by a democratic society. Some of the problems involved with disenfranchisement include racism, inaccurate polls, and the massive amount of people affected. If the voice of the entire population does not include all sources and agendas, the polls will not be accurate. In Camilli’s research, it is assumed that the enfranchisement of the population is important for a fair and effective democratic community: those governed by this community must be able to vote.
