A good leader is able to take good advice from anyone apart of the nursing team whether nursing aide, licensed nurse, or registered nurse. Leaders should also have to make some difficult decisions at times to reduce a negative environment. Removing negative staff members from the atmosphere is key in running a successful business. As the saying goes “One apple spoils the whole bunch”. Maintaining a positive, safe work environment and building a team that focuses on the safety and well being of its patients as well as the entire healthcare team is the ultimate goal (McGuire & Kennedy, 2006). It is everyone’s responsibility to improve the retention of nurses in the healthcare facilities across the United States. Nurse Practitioner is a registered nurse (RN) with more education and training than a registered nurse in family and pediatric practice. Nurse Practitioners can provide health care for kids. They manage acute and critical ill clients both mental and physical. They are able to provide care without the supervision of a doctor. NPs still have to refer to doctors when things are out of their scope of practice. NP can be referred to as (advanced practice nurses, APN). NP’s follow the same rules and regulations of the Nurse Practices Act in the state in which they are licensed. A NP can work in a family practice, doctor’s office, have they own private office, hospital, nursing home, school, or public health facilities.…

While researching texts written and published about Nurse Practitioners, I have found that Nurse Practitioners are rapidly becoming the top health partner choice for many Americans. Nurse Practitioners have been servicing patients for over forty years. The NP role had its initiation in the mid-sixties in response to a lack of physicians in the United States. They can perform very extensive and concentrated examinations; distinguish and treat common keen illnesses, as well as laboratory tests; and educate and instruct patients and their loved ones about maintaining a healthy lifestyle and possible health care options. In all fifty states Nurse Practitioners are allowed to prescribe medications to patients, including controlled substances. Only twenty-six states allow Nurse…

I believe one of the hardest aspects of being a nurse is having to deal with a patient’s death, especially if it’s unexpected, and you have grown close to them. Although I am not a nurse, I do know the pain of losing someone dear to me, just as every individual does. As a new nurse, of course, it would be difficult to handle a sudden and bloody patient death. As of right now I don’t know how I would handle it because I have not had to face such a situation. Dealing with a patient’s sudden death would be really emotional, but I would try to move on from the experience. I usually try to make light of a depressing situation. When I have issues or something on my mind, I talk to friends about how I am feeling. I think a way to get pass through…

All nurses are leaders, and are roll-models for those around us. An RN or an LVN can lead a new CNA, for example, by teaching them a skill. But it is the way a nurse leads, and also how they follow, that can teach anyone around them. Patients, other occupations, family can all be influenced just by how you are leading. Everyone has heard that “nurses eat their young”, and…

For me, choosing to be a part of the nursing profession was not as easy as it may have been for others. I am not the daughter or granddaughter of a nurse. My mother was a single unemployed woman for most of my life. I knew I wanted to walk my own path, but I wasn’t certain what that was. When I entered the workforce, I didn’t follow my dreams; I simply followed familiar steps. For many years I wanted to pursue a career in the medical field, but responsibilities held me back. I realized while I may be very good at what I was doing, I was not following my heart.…

Nursing is a second career for me. It is one I have approached gradually, over a long period of time. I might have chosen it as a first career if I had been a better student when I entered college, or had people in my life who were involved in healthcare careers when I was growing up. As it was, I had a longstanding interest in health and the human body, but nursing seemed very foreign, and the idea of touching strangers made me uncomfortable.…

I am so familiar with such nursing leaders at my workplace, who adopt the principles of servant leadership in their life and at the workplace. I could see their empathy, awareness of the problems/situations, conceptualization, and the foresight in their approach to the staff. No doubt, they are the models of service to their team. They are committed to the wellbeing of their team and build the community through their commitment and healing approach. This type of leaders persuades the followers through their kind actions (Spears, 2010). We need such servant leaders and should appreciate their service, as they make the real change that persists. These servant leaders motivate and inspire their followers. Under their leadership, the employees…

A positon in which one has authority is not a requirement for being a leader. A leader tends to be more engaging and easy to talk to. They are more likely to be motivators, declare values, and are relationship oriented (South University Online, 2014, para. 2). A leader must acquire particular qualities such as determining an objective, support others, influence as well as inspire (Romero, 2010, p. 4). According to Grossman & Valiga (2013) everyone has the potential of being a leader and should be thought of as a learned skill and not as a position (p. 4). A manager is more impersonal and consist of less emotional involvement. As stated by Sieloff & Ralph (2011) there are three behaviors such as respecting nurses, the profession, as well as the art and science of nursing in which a nurse manager should exhibit in order to be seen by others as a leader (p. 979). To put the wants of others before personal desires is an example of a good…
