religious believes, or life’s choices. Every patient deserves the best quality of care they can get. They should not be treated differently, simply because their views are different from those of the nurse’s.
It is very important for a nurse to act as an advocate for their patients.
He/she is the person that spends most of the time with the patient. The nurse acts as an intermediate between the doctor and the patient, she helps the patients understand their diagnosis and helps them make the best decisions about their health. Nurses must make sure that the patients safety comes first and that is what advocacy is all about.
Person
The recipient of care is someone who cannot take care of him/herself anymore and has to depend on someone to regain back his or her health. Nurses must make sure that the patients’ needs are being met. In order for that to happen one must view patients in a holistic way rather then just treating their symptoms, if a person is not feeling well on the inside it will be very difficult for that person to feel well on the outside as …show more content…
well.
Health
Health is the connection between the physical, and physiological state of the person within himself/herself and those around him/her. A person should be able to take care of him/herself independently. When a person is unable to do so, nurses have to be prepared to meet the patient’s needs, they should be able to make a plan according to the patients diagnosis, and make sure to give the highest level of health that they can for that particular patient. Personally and professionally Quiros believes that health is when a person takes good care of his/her body mentally. It is important for a person to challenge their brain by reading, studying, and learning new and difficult things everyday. It also means taking care of ones self physically, by exercising everyday, eating healthy, and not smoking or drinking alcohol. Socializing is also important for ones well being, surrounding ones self with friends, and family that love and care about you is a great way to state healthy.
Environment
Environment plays a big role in a patient’s health.
It not only affects a person physically but also mentally and socially. Environment is a place where patients should feel safe and comfortable, it should be clean, quiet and private, and patients should be able to benefit from it.
Nursing
Nursing personally means promoting the health and maintaining the well being of the patient. The purpose of nursing is to help patients, by focusing on the person as a whole, meaning spiritually, and psychologically, instead of trying to fix only their symptoms or disease. When a person needs nursing care is because their illness or disease is out of their hands and they can’t control it by themselves anymore, and they have to seek the help of a professional.
Quiros believes that spirituality plays a big role for a person’s well being. No matter our age, or gender, or culture. Spirituality is a way of finding inner peace, hope and meaning to ones life. Having faith in something gives you a sense of purpose to your life. Spirituality cannot cure an illness but it can make a person feel better inside and out. Culture plays a big role in Quiros philosophy. Culture defines who we are, our beliefs, customs, the way we think is all do to our culture. When it comes to health most of the time many people rely on their beliefs to cure their illness, or to get better. Nurses should be aware and respectful of their patients culture and
beliefs.
Quiros was born and raised Catholic. She was taught to put God before everything, and to pray to him whenever she needed His guidance. When it comes to health she believes that God plays a big role in helping her and her family get better when sick, praying to Him makes her feel more secure and gives her hope. She believes that is very important for people to have someone to believe in. Believing in a higher power make people have a sense of relive, because they know that when they pray to their God they will get better. It gives them hope for themselves and their families. Having faith makes people not want to give up easily but instead fight harder because someone is looking out for them.
