Quiz-Taking Tips

There are four quizzes to be completed by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Sunday of Modules/Weeks 1, 3, 5, and 7. Each quiz consists of 20 objective-type questions, is timed for 30 minutes, and covers two units within the textbook: • Quiz 1: Units 1 & 2 • Quiz 3: Units 5 & 6 • Quiz 2: Units 3 & 4 • Quiz 4: Units 7 & 8

The quizzes are specifically derived from the exercises located at the end of each unit in the textbook. The exercises at the end of each unit serve two integrated purposes: (1) to help you progressively organize the concepts and ideas gleaned in a meaningful manner; and (2) to provide a framework and structure with which to read and study in preparation for the quizzes.

Students who exceed the 30-minute time limit will have 10 points deducted for every five-minute interval that exceeds the limit. Students who complete the exercises prior to the quiz typically earn significantly higher grades than those who do not. Thus, those who actually fill in the blanks provided in the exercises at the end of each unit should have no difficulty in completing the quiz within the 30-minute timeframe.

The exercises, based on proven educational principles, are intended to be completed in the following sequential order. • Observational Analysis: The Observational Analysis must prepare and detail a broad overview of the unit. The student is to read the unit to establish the main themes and principles being discussed. At this point, the student should take notes and sketch a brief outline of each major section within the unit. • Preview of Key Terms: The Preview of Key Terms establishes the foundational vocabulary used within the unit. This section is set up in a matching format enabling the student to easily compare and contrast the specifics between key terms. Building upon the results of completing the Observational Analysis, the Preview allows the student to go back through the notes they have taken to fill in the
