Reflective Account On Health And Safety Procedures
Acting as Labor Committee Member of our class, I was responsible for arranging my classmates to do the daily classroom cleaning, and I always believed I had done a good job by making very reasonable arrangements, until one day.

When I arrived at school that morning, I saw “Criticize the Labor Committee Member for not being on duty yesterday” on the blackboard. I got angry and asked, “Who did that?” Just the moment, the class became silent. When sitting down in my seat, however, I heard some voices from behind, “You escaped from your duty yesterday, so how could you blame someone who pointed out that?” “Do you know you are a class cadre?” I realized that I did something unpopular which I only asked the teacher for a leave the day before.

I had an incident with another member of staff. I had been working as a TA with a year 8 class, the RE teacher i was working with used to have a laugh and joke with them and would then abruptly tell them " right stop now we need to get on with our work". They were a lower set class with many statemented pupils, who got confused and upset as to why they could laugh and joke about but then get told off, they couldnt instantly switch to work mode.…

I will start by carrying out a full and detailed medical history so as to establish safe practice. As long as this is clear I will then move on to checking the hand to make sure there is no swelling, discolouration, abrasions or thickening of the skin. I will also check the health of the nails and whether any areas of the hand itself are painful to touch. I shall make sure the recipient is comfortable and if all is well I shall proceed, starting with the right hand I will work each area for 30 seconds (longer if a reflex requires it).…

I on the other hand struggled with making friends, fitting in, and just adjusting to this new class. Caesar was influenced by Cathedral and Multrey to force Pancho Morrison into giving up his bottom bunk as a way of showing dominance and letting “him know who rules”(Cathedral, 77). Similar to how they convinced Caesar I was also convinced by my friend Gabe to bully a Chinese boy named Sam. I don’t blame my friend as much as I blame myself for carrying out all the verbal and physical abuse that we caused him. I can’t remember if I did it to seem cooler in front of Gabe or to show how tough I can be, but all I know is that I would regret it later on. During History class my teacher called out Gabe and me to report to the dean’s office. As we were leaving my teacher held the door open with the look of disgust and shame, I already knew what this was about, considering Sam wasn’t in the room. I was considered one of his better students and he would never look at me the same. The dean didn’t call our parents. Instead he had us apologize to Sam and gave us a warning that if either one of us continued harassing Sam that he would get the cops involved. I could try and play the “I was just a kid” card, but I knew what I was doing just like Caesar did when he assaulted Pancho. Ever since that…

On the particular day of the conflict I was walking down the hallway to attend a meeting. As I was walking down the hall I could hear faculty in one of the classrooms talking about administration in a negative manner. The door was wide open to the room and I could hear one teacher in particular continuing on and on. It really bothered me that this particular teacher was so boldly talking about administration, so I decided to enter the…

Even though, I didn't know where any of my classrooms were. Lets fast-forward a bit. I did not do well in 3 of my classes. I later failed them. The next semester there was this program for students that failed a course or courses last semester. I was in that program and it was called "study skills" even though we didn't do any studying. There were 2 parts to this class. We either work to get our credits back or we be in the classroom and learn things we don't need to know. By the way there were other students there instead of just me. The students (including me) were all annoyed with the class and very disliked it. We were in the class room more than we were getting our credits back, but even when we were everyone still hated it. We were just being pushed around do this, do that, its sad. Due to us not doing much work we all had to do summer school. I have been regretting ever since then and I want to drop out of school. I'm not going to but i feel the need to. Lesson learned to always do your work even though you have to listen to people that don't deserve to have the type of power they…

On my second week of clinical at Credit Valley Hospital, I experienced an event that I will not forget. One of my nurses patient was being vicious, acting inappropriately and violent towards the nurses there, causing an uncomfortable environment and putting his safety and other safety on the line. I have always heard of patient abuse, patient neglect, patients being sexually abuse, etc.… but I have hardly ever heard about staff mistreatment from patients, patient’s family members, and other staff. In my first semester of nursing, I was taught to treat patients with courtesy, respect, and care and most importantly, their safety. But we were only taught once on ways to protect ourselves from patient abuse. This incident has taught me that as a nurse I must protect my patients but I must primary consider protecting myself.…

After she had left, I started to think. Why had I done it? Couldn't I have just followed my usual behavior and sit in class? Self-hatred hit me like a wrecking ball. I cursed the moment my friends and I had decided to follow the other students’ example and gotten out of class, thinking that if they never got punished, why would we? Of course, that was a horrible excuse and we knew it.…
