SCH-MGMT 310 9/23/11 It is of the utmost importance to be able to work in a team and be a team player at this stage in our lives. We are just about ready to take the next step and start working in the real world where being a part of a team is necessary. Throughout my collegiate career I have developed many integral skills to being a valuable team member. These skills include: being creative, having good team communication, and being trustworthy, just to name a few. I have consistently demonstrated these skills while working in teams and I plan to continue that trend when I get into the business world. Part of being a good team member is having good team communication skills. I like to present myself as someone whom the team can rally around and feel comfortable talking to. I think that is extremely important because I want others to feel comfortable voicing their ideas and opinions without the fear of being shot down. Without good team communication, a team can fall apart, which causes them to not be able to meet deadlines. I have been a part of a team where a member never answered calls, texts, or emails and it ultimately caused the group to suffer. The worst part is that everyone in the group got the same grade on the project mainly because no one wants to say someone in the group didn’t play a part or help at all. If a team can establish good communication early, it makes it extremely easy to set up times to meet later. I like to think of myself as a team member who is very reliable. I want my teammates to come to me if they need help understanding something. This quality is also extremely valuable in the workplace because I want my boss and co-workers to know they can count on me with any project that comes my way. If everyone in your team can be considered dependable it is much easier to split up work, knowing each person will get it done right and on time. I don’t like to just think of a team as a

In order to be an effective team you must accomplish your set goals. To achieve this task a team must first discover and overcome the five dysfunctions of a team. According to Lencioni (2005), “Dysfunction #1 Is the Absence of Trust: Members of great teams trust one another on fundamental, emotional level, and they are comfortable being vulnerable with each other about their weaknesses, mistakes, fears, and behaviors. Dysfunction #2 is Fear of Conflict: Teams that trust one another are not afraid to engage in passionate dialogue around issues and discussions that are key to the organization’s success. Dysfunction #3 is the Lack of Commitment: Teams the engage in unfiltered conflict are able to achieve genuine by-in around important decisions, even when various members of the team initially disagree. Dysfunction #4 is Avoidance of Accountability: Teams that commit to decisions and standards of performance do not hesitate to hold one another accountable for adhering to those decisions and standards. Dysfunction #5 Inattention to Results: Teams that trust one another, engage in conflict, commit to decisions, and hold one another accountable are very likely to set aside their individual needs and agendas and focus almost exclusively on what is best for the team.”…

We have a lot to learn from one another, in terms of academic and business. To me, a good team player is one who contributes, is willing to take and act on criticism, believes in healthy debate and, once an agreement is reached, works towards it as a team member, irrespective of his or her personal stand. I also believe that we must play different roles in different work groups.…

In this task I will be reflecting upon an incident undertaken on area of my work. The model of reflection I’ve chosen is Gibbs (1988), which involves reflection on the description, feelings, evaluation, conclusion and action plan (Gibbs 1988). The Gibbs (1988) reflective cycle is fairly straightforward and encourages a clear description of the situation, analysis of feelings, evaluation of the experience, analysis to make sense of the experience, conclusion where other options are considered and reflection upon experience to examine what you would do if the situation arose again. The procedure in which I will be reflecting upon is Last offices; I chose this due to how constructive and valuable it was in my personal and professional development as a student practitioner nurse.…

As nervous as I was when I walked into Saint Joseph Catholic School (K-8) for my first day of kindergarten, I never thought I would be able to leave after 6th grade and enter the world of middle school. In a small school of about 400 kids, I was familiar with every face that passed by me in the hallway. I got to know the kids in my grade so well and we all knew each other’s life stories. By the time I was in 6th grade at Saint Joseph, some of my friends were planning on going to Kinard middle school in 7th grade. At this point in my life, I was not completely content with where I was going to school. The realization came to me that it was time to move on. It was time for me to try something new.…

When it comes to teamwork, most people will consider teamwork in terms of being part of a baseball, basketball, or football team. In contrast, a team is “really just a group of people who use their skills, experience, and knowledge to work toward a common goal” (Beverly K. Bachel, 2007). Teams working together in the workplace are extremely productive and profitable. Teams working together increase problem-solving skills and innovation, quality, and decrease turnover and absenteeism. (Scarnati, J 2006) Teams have an overall high success rate when well structured and the communication between the team members stays open throughout the project. A team is a collection of individuals who have gathered to achieve the same…
