Remaining Abstinence: If I Choose To Have Sex Before Marriage
Sexual Abstinence I believe in being abstinent because if I choose to have sex before marriage then I may get pregnant. The last thing I want is to have a baby with no husband. Getting pregnant would completely ruin my life and I am too young to worry about something like having to take care of a baby that is my own. Participating in abstinence will for sure save me from having struggles in my life that I could prevent very easily. Remaining abstinent also leaves the door open for my future. By choosing to have sex before marriage I will put myself at risk for several things. Those include getting an STD, major stress in my life that is not needed, a bad reputation, possible getting pregnant which would limit what I can do, and going against

When I was around the age to start talking about sexual activities, it was a funny and weird subject to speak on. In reality, it is a touchy topic to talk about with teens. You feel that you already know or you don’t need to know because you are not having sex. Oh! How we were wrong. My mom told me about birth control, condoms, and abstinence. At first I didn’t know exactly what abstinence was but I figured out that it meant wait to have sex when you’re ready. My mom told me to wait until I get married, never get pressured to do anything. I never learned a lot of facts at school because we didn’t have sex education. Sex education should be in all middle and high schools. So many kids like I did didn’t know about safe sex and the cause and effects on what will happen. Not only females but more males have no idea on what to expect as well. Recent discussions has showed that if you tell kids to stay abstinent not only will they go out and have sex anyway but cause a lot of problems such as, teen pregnancy, more infections spreading, and emotional distress.…

With all the emphasis on the importance of using condoms and birth control to ensure safer sex, I feel the intelligent choice of abstinence is being highly overlooked. It is sometimes viewed as old-fashioned and based solely on religion, but in theory it is a plausible decision for one to make. The word abstinence means to abstain or refrain from something. People tend to forget its specific meaning, and feel that those who make this choice judge the ones that do not. Making this choice myself, I will set the record straight that abstinence is strictly a personal choice and others have absolute no influence. Many of my closest friends have chosen to have sex, and I have and always will be there for them no matter what decisions they make. They too stand by me with the decisions I make, despite the fact that they may be different.…

Two reasons why abstinence is 100% effective is because if you follow it, there is no way that you can get an STD/STI, and there are no risks at all. If you decide not to have sex then there is no way you can get pregnant, choosing abstinence is basically the fact that you would constantly have to visit the doctor to get checked for diseases.…

Lickona declares the benefits of remaining abstinent saying that: [it] ensures that children will have two married parents… [it is] good for parent-child relationships… [it is] associated with more virtuous behavior… and [teens] do better in school” (203). All of these advantages focus mainly on the emotional aspects of abstinence and how they affect a teen’s behavior. Through abstinence, Lickona’s examples argue that adolescents will grow in self-confidence and self-respect, which in turn results in the reduction of out of wedlock pregnancies and reduces the risk of STDs. This particular piece of evidence shows that high moral codes turns into safer choices in a teen’s…

Abstinence only goal is to prevent teens from sexual intercourse. They used tactics like religion and traditional beliefs to send the message that expressing sexual behavior brings shame to everyone around them (Krueger). Those programs do not teach teens about protection nor ways for them to be in control of their health. Out of the 13 programs funded by the government, only 2 have correct information about protection and prevention (Krueger). Also, only abstinence program’s states have a higher teen pregnancy than states whom teach a variety of sexual education programs. In southern states, where abstinence is only focused on, there are ~20% more births in southern states compared to northern states (Krueger) . Also, abstinence taught teens were more likely to not wear protection and higher chances to contract STDs (Krueger). There needs to be updated sex education programs in high schools in the united…

I admire your decision to refrain from any sexual activity until you are married; that way, you can avoid the many negative problems that are a result of it. The best way to tell your boyfriend that you want to be abstinent is upfront with no sugar-coating. By telling him directly how you feel, he should take you very seriously and respect your decision more than if he has to infer it from your implication; however, do not delve into the subject matter too quickly or else both of you will leave the conversation feeling awkward and confused. When things get romantic, there are other things to do than engage in sexual activity: you guys can watch a movie or do something else that will preoccupy and distract your mind. In order to control yourself, do not give in to your impulses and do something else in order to divert your attention; same with your boyfriend! Clarifying a point I made earlier, abstinence helps avoid negative and potentially life-threatening health issues: these issues include but are not limited to STI’s and emotional distress. If your boyfriend does not respect your decision to remain abstinent and consistently pressures you to have sex, then you know that it is time to leave him. A partner who truly loves and cares for you should respect your decision despite if he does not agree with it. I hope you and your boyfriend have a happy and continuous relationship.…

An abstinence-only program requires adults to teach teenagers and young adults that, "abstinence from sexual activity is the only certain way to avoid out-of-wedlock pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases and other associated health problems" (Debra Haffner qtd. in Koch). Of course abstinence is the only certain way, however saying this gives teenagers the idea that contraception like condoms are not effective and are not worth using. These programs only give negative statistics about the failure of condoms. It is not what we want teenagers to think. We want them to practice safe sex.…

This will help students when it comes the time to make the decision to have intercourse to do so safely. The Abstinence-Only Sex Education system, on the other hand, does not prepare the students at all when it comes to sex. Under the Abstinence-Only Sex Education system, they are taught not to be involved in intercourse until after marriage. But if the student decides on becoming sexually active prior to marriage, they would not have the knowledge to do so safely. Instead, they will be left in confusion and frustration, due to the lack of knowledge the Abstinence-Only Sex Education system provides for…

    Sex and Marriage

Marriage has been one of the most fundamental principals of human society since the beginning of time. Traditionally understood marriage is restricted to two people, particularly a women and a man. Since the nature of marriage is changing with modern times and people are marrying for love not just social needs should the notion that is reviewed by society and this long- confirmed definition be reconfigured and opened in order to make same-sex marriage suitable in society or refuse same-sex marriage? More than half of all people in the United States oppose gay marriage, even though three fourths are otherwise supportive of gay rights. This means that many of the same people who are even passionately in favor of gay rights oppose gays on this one issue (Bidstrup). Many moral controversies revolve around gay marriage such as, marriage is an institution between one man and one woman and gay relationships are immoral. John Corvino rejects the view that homosexuality is immoral in his article, “Why Shouldn’t Tommy and Jim Have Sex? A Defense of Homosexuality.” He responds to two arguments against homosexual sex, that it is unnatural and harmful. Unnatural refers to that which deviates from the norm, from what most people do. Corvino distinguishes various senses of “unnatural” and his overall conclusion in this regard is that homosexual sex is not unnatural in any morally relevant sense. He defends the practice of homosexuality against the charge that is harmful. He takes issue both with the claim that the practice of homosexuality is harmful to those who engage in it and with the claim that others are threatened by it (Mappes). Many people believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman because that is the view installed throughout the Bible. One major notion commonly heard is, God made Adam and Even and that is what binds marriage and morality. Many believe same-sex marriage is immoral but who is permitted to determine the morality of…

In the past, Congress has funded abstinence-only programs over abstinence-plus education. The $102 million (0) currently being spent on abstinence-only programs seems to be intended to serve social and political goals, instead of producing positive health results for youth. The government appears to be concerned with how others portray our citizens, as immoral beings, when sex is an inevitable occurrence. Abstinence-plus education emphasizes the benefits of abstinence while also teaching about contraception and disease-prevention methods. Abstinence-only programs education includes discussions of values, character building, and refusal skills. They promote abstinence from sex for unmarried people and do not teach about contraception. They do not reduce pre-marital sex, but they do cause young people to avoid contraception. Because of the ineffectiveness of abstinence-only programs, abstinence-plus education should be taught instead.…

If you are a teenager or a young adult, you should be practicing abstinence, this means choosing to not take part in having any sexual intercourse or in any sexual behavior period. Involving yourself in sexual activity has many risk factors alone. The first risk to consider before you engage in sexual intercourse is pregnancy. Are you prepared to have a baby? Are you ready to take on the responsibility to have a child and become a parent? Is your partner ready to have a child? Say that you do end up becoming pregnant, if your partner is not ready for that type of commitment and responsibility, will you be able to handle a child all on your own? More than likely the answers to these questions are no, I am not ready. When you engage in this risky behavior and do end up pregnant, you will have no choice to mature and grow up faster than you expected that you would. Caring for a baby is not an easy task and will be difficult, especially at a young age. Not only is pregnancy a risk factor to consider, but the second risk is catching an STD or Sexually Transmitted Disease. STD’s are a common risk of being sexually active because some of these diseases have no symptoms or signs, and others have no cure. To prevent against these risks, use protection when engaging in sexual activity. Although, even when protection is being used, it is not 100%…
