Was the US right for declaring war on Mexico? What would America be like if we hadn’t? The United States was right to acquire the South Western territories since they were undeveloped, had a dictatorship instead of a democracy, and these lands were in peril of being conquered by larger foreign enemy countries. If we didn’t step in and declare war on Mexico, then the United States wouldn’t have the freedoms and riches it has today, and we wouldn’t have been able to support other countries like we do now. Sometimes nations have to make difficult decisions to assure their survival, and the United States wasn’t the first nation to do so.

With this being said, America needed to take over Mexico for our survival. France had already taken over Canada (which is near the U.S.) meaning they could’ve taken California and all of its riches if we hadn't intervened.
