Research Strategy Paper My main problem is procrastination. It’s very hard for me to get started on a task. I will usually find anything to avoid the situation. My procrastination gets so bad that it also effects my time management. I can actually remember when I was in high school getting to school on time, was a task in its self. When my alarm went off a t 6:45 in the morning I would reset it until 7:00. Then I would get out of bed go into the bathroom until about 7:20. When I came out I would turn on the television and slowly get dressed. At about 7:45 I would then sit down to eat breakfast. By now its 8:10 or 8:15 I would start walking to the bus stop. Nine times out of ten I would miss the 8:20 bus. Now I have to wait until 8:30, at 8:30 I’m officially late for first period. Its 8:45 and I have to catch another bus; I would ride like two miles to school from there. realized that I procrastinate from the time I wake up in the morning until I go to sleep at night. As I’m sitting here at the computer typing my paper I am doing other things and I didn’t even realize it. Now that I’m taking my time seriously I’ve had reason to find different ways to understand and minimize procrastination.
I personally know that stopping procrastination will not happen overnight it takes time and patience. Something a procrastinator has to work on. I plan to work hard at minimizing it as much as I can throughout my school career to take it into my work life. One of my favorite quotes of all time is “Until you value yourself, you will not value your time. And until you value your time you will not do anything with it”. The late M. site Waiting for the “right” mood or “right” time to tackle the task at hand. A fear of failure or success. Poor organizational skills. That’s just some of my major reasons of procrastination. These are some ways to prevent or minimize it. Ask someone else to check up on you, to make sure your on task. Peer pressure works. Identify the unpleasant consequences of not doing the task. Break the project into a set of smaller manageable tasks. For my research I used various internet books and websites. I also discovered that there are so many of my favorite actors, writers, and talk show hosts that battle with procrastination. I read on one of these sites that one of my favorite actors Will Smith still procrastinates to this day. It kind of eases the tension to know that even highly paid people procrastinate. Reading over some of the problems and ways to solve them will help me understand and manage my situation better. From the information I gathered I’ll be able to stop procrastination before it starts. A couple of solutions I will consider are time management and self discipline. This will help me manage my time better; it will prevent me from trying to do something else when I have a task to complete. I will be able to set realistic deadlines for a task and have it done before the deadline. I have to change my attitude toward my work because I’m my worst enemy. I criticizemy own work and sometimes second doubt what I can do. Motivation plays a big part in this also without telling yourself you can do it, or hearing family and friends say it you won’t get far. I always say without motivation nothing is possible.
