Resilience: Working In The Intermediate Care Unit

Nursing is a job that needs a lot of resilience. I am a CNA and I currently work in the Intermediate Care Unit. Resilience is a big part of the job when handling patients while they are staying in the hospital. A lot of the patients that I see when I am working have an understanding that I am there to help. There are some who get brought in by family because they are concerned and the patient doesn’t know where they are or who they are. My experience is that I can never give up on them and always understand that there is something that they can’t control. I am also there to make sure they know why they are in the hospital. To ease their concerns, I tend to reassure them that they are being well taken care of. I also start conversations with
Resilience also happens to be in everyday life. I have social anxiety so getting out and doing things, making friends or walking on campus by myself is hard. With having this mental illness, I have overcome so many different things. I have been able to understand that I have a job here and being able to overcome these different challenges makes me better as a person and therefore I can make my role as a nurse better by going through these challenges now. Being a CNA or a nurse can be challenging, but having social anxiety on top of that can make it challenging. But to understand that I can overcome all of these and get the job I dream of makes all of this easy. Working with others is a skill that all nurses need to do their job. As a nurse, you are working with patients who speak different languages and come from different backgrounds that you have. You could also have coworkers that have different views on how you go about things. I have worked with people who don’t speak the same language as I do. As a CNA, there was a lady who couldn’t speak English at all and needed a translator, no one could find the translator for
