Helping children with special needs
The Educational assistant follows the instructions of the teacher and is responsible for assisting with specific educational objectives planned by teacher. They need to help develop individual program plans for students of special needs, under the direction of teacher. Educational assistant understands that needs of student comes first before their own needs. As an educational assistant, my goal for helping students is to satisfy their needs in the classroom environment and to make child the better citizen for tomorrow.
It is the responsibility of educational assistant to maintain about children and parents matters confidential until unless serves professional purpose or required by law. Responsibility of Educational assistant lays with teacher to collaborate in providing learning opportunities to actualise potential of student. Maintaining effective working relationships with student and teacher is to be aim of Educational assistant. Better understanding between student and Educational assistant evolves good learning in all aspects to achieve mutual goal. Believe in them even when they don’t believe in themselves. Various areas of special needs like shared decision making, behavioral, communicational, and intellectual and health needs are to taken care of by educational assistant. As diversity of special needs depends up on various disorders like Autism, aphasia, articulation, ataxia and down syndrome, Educational assistant assigned to work one-on-one in small groups or with a class of students in general (Gursky, 2003, p.188).
