CS1a The sample snack menu in my Resource collection shows my commitment to children’s nutritional needs by ensuring the healthy food groups are incorporated on a daily basis. I did not design the menu and I feel that it lacks fresh fruits and vegetables. The packaged “fruit cups” do not compare with fresh produce.
In comparison of cost the packaged fruits are significantly higher while losing essential nutritional value. I feel the taste and consistency of fresh produce ranks much higher as well. My commitment reflects serving quality snacks, the freshest produce available. CS1b The room environment reflects the way I believe young children learn best in the following ways my supervising teacher designed the room and I feel she was successful in defining areas that allow the children to move freely from one center to another. The learning environment is bright and colorful however, I would make several changes to the centers. For example, this particular group has a significantly high ratio of 45 yr. old boys. In my observations I found the heavy wood blocks (2x4) in the toy center often times motivated the boys into aggressive behavior. I feel the extra large box of lego’s plus cardboard bricks are good choices but would remove the 2x4 wood, some pieces are over 2 ft long. In considering replacements I discovered several options including a “marble run”, magnetic shapes, and/or multiple sizes of small shipping boxes that could be colored/decorated to suit their imaginations. The small boxes are also a cost effective alternative.
Additionally, when I began my position the writing center lacked any type of plain paper.
From time to time there was a small amount of scrap paper added. In observing the girls I found this center to be in high demand. I offered to supply the center with coloring sheets, worksheets and sheets for cutting, pasting practice on a weekly basis.
