Two men, Tulio and Miguel, win a map to the lost City of Gold named El Dorado in a gambling match, which had been riffed. They were shortly detained when they were captured and imprisoned by one of the ships of the Spanish explorer Cortez. Corez’s
horse, Altivo helps with their escape. They eventually find the city. A priest proclaims them to be Gods when he sees images of Tulip and Miguel riding Altivo as the same on the totem, in a scheme to win the city himself.
They meet a pretty girl along the way, Chel along the way that helps them with their ruse. She learns about their scheme but offers to help maintain it as long as they give her a share of the gold and take her with them when they leave. Chel tries to get close to Tulio, Miguel explores the city and starts forming bonds with the people and love the city.
Miguel starts to bleed and the people realize he’s not a God because Gods don’t bleed. A giant stone Jaguar is conjured to chase them through the city, however Tulio and Miguel manage to outwit the stone when Tzekel-kan and the Jaguar falls into a giant whirlpool. The whirlpool was thought to be the entrance to the spirit world.
The city is blocked forever when the city residents pull down a large statue to create a wave. The gold is lost for good, but Tulio Miguel Chel and Altivo escape in a boat and move to new adventures.
