Robinpaw Chapter 1 Summary
Prologue

Robinpaw, the apprentice of Larksong, trotted along the trail out of Lightningclan’s camp. She was training to someday be a warrior and fight alongside her clan in battles without the constant watchfulness of a mentor. She was six moons old, old enough to become a warrior, and expected her assessment and naming ceremony soon with the other apprentices of Lightningclan. She stopped to shake out her white and brown fur before hearing her name called, “Robinpaw!” Note her mentor but the medicine cat, Oakfur, raced to catch up. “Robinpaw, will you come with me to collect the healing herbs?” He asked as he stopped beside the younger cat. She perked up a bit, without her usual training from Larksong she was so extremely bored she might have decided to collect moss for the elders den. “Of course!” she exclaimed with excitement. “What do you need?” The old cat twitched his whiskers in amusement and meowed, “Cobwebs to stop bleeding and Catnip for Fevercough.” He instructed. She bounded off ahead of him towards the river, Where Catmint grew.

Milun, a knight of South Wales was recognized to be the best in battles. A girl had heard of Milun and confessed her love for Milun and he promised her his love and loyalty. He then sends her a token of his promise, a gold ring. “He gave her the ring and told her that he had done what she asked. The girl was delighted at the love she was being offered” (45). Their love was so deep for each other, she ended up getting pregnant. She was not very fond of this idea. She knew that Milun would be upset. “She told him what had happened she has lost her honor and good mane when she got herself into this situation” (57). She was terrified that she would be “tortured by the sword or sold into slavery” (61). When Milun heard about the situation, he was willing to do whatever she asked of him. He was sent to give the child in Northumbria to her sister. While he went away to deliver the child to her sister, she was set up by her father with a nobleman and she was taken away by her new husband. When he was traveling to Northumbria, he creates a messaging system with a swan, where he hides letters in between the feathers. As they send the swan back and forth to each other, he tells her to starve the swan and send it back so it looks for food on its way back home. This continues for an on-going twenty years. When Marie mentions the swan, it symbolizes this delicate and fragile love that is going on between the girl and Milun. When they starve the swan during the messaging, it represents this suffering love between them, but once it heads back, it flourishes. It portrays that love is not always a happy thing. There will be a time where love faces neglect. Throughout the story, Marie also mentions this idea of “the most direct route” (175). It portrays the idea of love being “the most direct route”. The fact that love knows where to go, there is no right, there is no left, it is a…

I felt expelled and exiled as they just left me there on the footpath in the chilling darkness of a Saturday night. “Get out of the car; we don’t want to be seen with you!” I can still hear those spiteful words playing over and over again in the back of my mind as I continue walking along the footpath of this unfamiliar suburb. I am completely alone with only my thoughts and the echo of my footsteps in the empty street. Upon hearing a faint resonance of a jingle, I look up again. I jump back as a black cat shoots across the path in front of me. I caught a glimpse of its dishevelled fur. It disappears, providing a screeching hiss that pierces the night air as it encounters a mammal in the undergrowth. They say a black cat at night is bad luck, but I honestly doubt my luck could have gotten any worse in light of recent events. It’s funny that the people you have loved and grown up with for almost your entire schooling journey can turn on you so effortlessly.…
