Running Personal Statement Essay
Personal Statement As I crossed the finish line, the rush of excitement and relief that overcame me was a feeling that I would never forget. As a runner, qualifying for Districts gave me the confidence to believe in myself knowing that my efforts in putting in more mileage and gaining more passion for the sport allowed me to create new goals for myself. This experience has also given me the opportunity to further my growth not only as an athlete but as an individual and to become the type of runner and person that I aspire to be from the lessons that I learned. Since 8th grade, I have participated in cross country as an alternate sport. While not being one of the top or more of the talented runners, I had never thought of cross country as anything more than just an extracurricular. However, during my junior year of high school, I began taking the sport more seriously after realizing my potential in running with the top 8 girls on the team. This season was also unlike most seasons that I had ever experienced because I felt healthier and faster. Because of this I had the hopes of qualifying for Districts. To achieve this goal, I went beyond what was expected of me by running every Saturday to incorporate extra mileage in my training and …show more content…
Because I qualified, I was able to run a 5-kilometer race under 23 minutes for the very first time. To me, being able to run under 23 minutes was another important accomplishment that I thought I would never achieve. I felt as if I gained respect from both my teammates and my coach. It helped prove that I was not just an average runner participating in the sport solely for the running aspect of it, but because I wanted to further my growth as an athlete and compete with other experienced runners. Qualifying for Districts gave me the opportunity to experience running in a higher-level environment and give me the confidence to believe in

I attempted to run longer before I stopped and began walking. I paced myself and even endeavored to keep up with some of the faster people on the team. Gradually, week after week, I could see myself progressing from a time in the mid-forties, to the low-forties, and finally into the thirties range. Between the first meet and regionals, we had about six more races, and regrettably, I came in last place in three of them. However, I refused to let my losses stand in the way of my motivation to get better. I kept training and before I knew it, it was the day of the regional…

The bus ride to Muscle Shoals High School felt like hours and hours while only minutes had passed. My stomach flipped ferociously like a gymnast on the vault. My friends were trying to hype me up, but I could only focus on the fear and shaking of my body. I was too afraid to move, but too prideful to act as though I was as nervous as I was. As my legs carried me onto the huge field where vibrant reds and blacks were flaunted over the walls and seats, I observed the very place I would spill all my hardwork and dedication and I began to grow anxious. “Just breathe” I told myself over and over and over. I was so busy arguing with myself that I barely noticed the loudspeaker singing my name. I walked to the field and slowly crouched like a lioness hunting her prey. POW. The gun went off and everything became normal to me. Running had become like breathing or eating or sleeping. I no longer feared the idea of failure, but yet embraced the idea of succeeding. I bolted across the finish line with many seconds between me and my opponents. Not only did I win the war within myself, but I helped my team win the entire meet. Everyone can win their battles, you just have to have the will and determination to do…

Participating on the Sutton High School cross country team has been one of the most rewarding yet stressful experiences of my life. For the past five years the Sutton cross country team has been a second home to me and season after season I return thirsting to vanquish a competitive fire. Although I'm ecstatic about competing this year, I was not always this happy about running. Almost immediately did I find out that a simple task like running could become much more strenuous not only on my legs and lungs but on the mind. While my body adjusts to the challenges of dirt…

“Every day is a good day when you run.” Kevin Nelson, who wrote The Runner's Book of Daily Inspiration, could not have been envisioning the mercurial weather of Rhode Island. As a three-sport athlete in Cross Country, Indoor Track and Outdoor Track, there is a certain commitment that one must have to be able to compete year-long in New England. Runners will often sugarcoat their feelings about running by saying it’s thrilling, satisfying and even fun. Although it can be personally fulfilling, it takes a lot of hard work, determination and perseverance to be an accomplished runner.…

For the past six years of my life, I ran for the Eureka Springs High School cross country team. After graduation, I was given the opportunity to run for the Golden Suns cross country team at Arkansas Tech University. In a matter of six months, my cross country experiences and habits were changed. Often times, there are similarities between two subjects such as these, but in this case, only the differences are obvious. There are changes in not only the way that I run, but the team I ran with, the coach I ran under, and the person I am when I run. These changes have caused me to see what I can do as a runner and a college student.…
