From 1945, Noble George Ross, a Rameses Temple Potentate’s Aide, alongside 13 other Shriners, founded a local, fully-realized club: The Midland District Shrine Club. This new club thrived, growing in numbers over the years. In December of 1978, William A. McArthur, former President, and long-term Secretary/Treasurer recalled the names of other Nobles in the early years.…

Throughout history, monuments have been built to show power, wealth, and even conquest. Depending on a cultures value and tradition, the types of monuments can vary from era to era. However, the construction of sacred monuments has predated from the times of the start of civilization in Mesopotamia to even modern day. People have always created buildings to show their faith, and to honor their gods. In Ashokan India and ancient Greece, the creation of sacred spaces was very common. The creation of the Great Stupa in India and the Parthenon in Greece both were built for the honor and worship for the respective god and goddess for both nation…

Philosopher Mircea Eliade describes sacred space as “Every sacred space implies a hierophony, an irruption of the sacred that results in detaching a territory from the surrounding cosmic milieu and making it qualitatively different” (Eliade, 26). After a recent trip to Santuario de Chimayo, I was able to refer to and apply Eliade’s ideas about sacred space to my own research. I have come to the conclusion that Mircea Eliade’s Theological Approach on sacred sites is very logical and truthful. Sacred sites are indeed created for encounters with the sacred as Eliade explains, but only for the believers. Those individuals whom are tourists or scholars may not necessarily experience an encountering with the sacred on their visit, however all of the visitors are respectful of the site and the other pilgrims visiting. Sacred sites like Chimayo are heterogeneous places filled with people of all different beliefs, so no it is not possible to say that every single individual visiting Chimayo experiences hierophony, but all give a mutual respect for one another and the site itself. Eliade’s approach is correct because sacred sites were indeed…

The city of Dilmun in the Sumerian mythological was described as a paradise garden where no one got sick or died; it was the garden of immortality. Boulay (1990) stated,“Dilmun was a land intimately associated with Sumer and Akkad, and just like Meluhha (Africa) and Magan (Egypt) supplied their cities with many economic necessities either through tribute or by commercial exchange. Dilmun was also a sacred or holy land often called the residence of the gods, a sort of garden of Eden, often referred to as "the land of the living," that is, the land of immortality” ( THE FABLED LAND OF DILMUN).…

I had participated in meditation before and it had refreshed me a lot, but nothing was a good as the feeling I received when I stood up from our body scan relaxation. Focusing on individual parts of my body wasn’t easy, as each time I would relax something, another thing would tense. But throughout the program of meditation, slowly I felt myself improving.…
In the hindu narrative of the cosmos. The world exists in a never ending cyclic journey of creation existence and destruction. The trimorti the three primary hindu devinities regulate this cosmic cycle. Brahma the creator brings this cosmos into it’s being, Vishnu the preserver ensures the world continues on it’s path until the cycle comes to it’s close. Then Shiva the god of death and destruction skin smeared white with the ashes of the cremated dead. When the world age comes to a close when the perfect creation so consumed by corruption and vice shiva’s job is to rpess the restart button and send the cosmos into a firey configuration. From the 3rd eye on shiva’s head comes a firey stream emulating the cosmos and rising from the ashes the…
