Homelessness Homelessness is a serious issue that I do not fully ignore, however I also make no effort to help the homeless community as much as I feel I should. In fact, I think there are many people who do not even think twice about the situation. I believe that there are things, both big and little, that we can all do to help out and make a difference. Being homeless means spending each night in unsuitable living conditions without comfort or proper necessities. When you get hungry, tired, or injured, you settle for less. I think people become homeless because of choices they make through circumstance, chance, or coincidence. There are three homeless helping organizations near me, the Gathering Inn, the Right Hand Auburn, and there’s even a food drive right in my own hometown to help those in need. There are homeless people everywhere in Auburn and with the help of the community I feel that we could make a difference. It’s impossible to count the exact number of homeless people there are throughout the world, but it is known to be millions. Over the past year, more than two million men, women, and children were rendered homeless. Most people in our society take the filthy, sketchy homeless community to be a collection of drug abusers and believe they show signs of addiction. The homeless people who choose to involve themselves in drugs set a bad reputation for the other members of the homeless community who truly are looking for help. A feel sadness towards the issue of homelessness, and would like to do what I can to help those less fortunate. My sister was briefly homeless once, so my heart goes out to those who are in need. One time I volunteered at a homeless shelter and I was able to put together bags of food and other essentials that they need. It was a very cool experience.
