Scholarship Essay

I served as a National Representative for The Council for Economic Opportunities in Greater Cleveland (CEOGC), which is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to serving the low-income people of Greater Cleveland and Cuyahoga County. I was sent to various states to gather resources to share to help in advancement of local schools. During my involvement with CEOGC, I met a lady who was widowed with a son - her husband died of cancer. Her son was involved with Hillcrest Nation Native Sons, which is an organization of father and son group activities. For the past four years, I try to stand in place for his dad and sponsor him so that he can still attend the activities he loves; such as the weekend camping trips. I volunteer Fridays at Imagine School Bella Academy and Shoreview Elementary as a classroom aide where I work with disruptive kids. My goal is to be in a position in which I can help others at a higher level and create opportunities from my degree, experience, and success.
My program major is Business with a concentration in Management, Programming and Development. I have interned at NASA Glenn Research Center for Aerospace Design and Fabrication, Inc. There I worked as a Network Administrator, and I also worked with engineers and scientists on wind tunnel experiments for various wind dynamics and partook in the use of robotic arms similar to factories in the automotive industry. I also controlled and programmed a laser steel cutting robotic arm for Dependable Stamping. I chose my major because I love programming and robotics and would like to someday manage a facility that includes both; and the automotive industry and similar organizations such as NASA are ideal places for my major. I have started my career plan to gather experience and plan to continue to work part-time and volunteer at institutions that add value to my degree.
