Statement Of Purpose: FCCLA
During the course of my high school career, I have developed a strong passion for the organization named the Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). FCCLA is a Career and Technical Student Organization that focuses on building students into better leaders for their families, careers, and communities. Furthermore, FCCLA teaches students practical skills that will be useful throughout their lifetimes. This organization has become an important part of my life because it has shaped me into the leader I am today. I began in the organization as a member and participant in competitive events, I have now worked my way up to being my chapter’s President and the Missouri State First Vice President. My leadership experience in FCCLA, especially my experience as a member of the Missouri State …show more content…
to advocate on behalf of FCCLA to Missouri Representatives and Senators. I was among a select few from across the country who were able to experience the opportunity to serve on behalf of all FCCLA members. It was a humbling experience because I realized if I, along with other FCCLA members, would not have been able to share why we are so passionate about the organization, then we may not have received the essential funding we need from the government. This is the perfect example of how I understand what being a socially responsible leader is; being a voice and advocate for the things I am passionate about. If I believe something needs to be supported or change, then I will be out there advocating for the issue and making a difference. Not only have I acted on behalf of FCCLA, but I have also taken action on issues in my own community, such as fighting childhood hunger and collecting donations for the children’s hospital. Similarly, the Gannon Center for Women and Leadership is contributing to the greater good like I am. Furthermore, I value dedicating my time to solving issues and contributing to the well-being of

As the program started, I soon realized that my enthusiasm was not regarded as positively as anticipated, and that many of the participants didn't share the same drive, interest and values I had for the program. Although my campaign proved successful, my aggressiveness backfired on me, and ultimately demonstrated how challenging holding a position of leadership truly is. What I could not foresee was the level of opposition and controversy I would face as a result. Following the guidelines of my…

During my years in Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), I have experienced novel challenges with officer duties, competitive event preparation, and chapter activities. In the beginning, more experienced members encouraged and lead me to find success in the organization, and as the school years have progressed, I have evolved to pass that same support onto others.…

I interviewed Becky Hendrix, Executive Director for Professional Care Services. I recently had the honor of interviewing someone in our community who has had more than twenty years of leadership experience in our community. The interview ended up taking much longer than I expected because I was so influenced by what she had to say, I did not want to miss anything. Mrs. Becky Hendrix started her career as a CPA back in the 80 's for the World Color Press. Her leadership abilities were quickly realized, and she was promoted to head CPA. From there she moved on to the Professional Care Service where she remained for fifteen years serving as a CPA, and finally working her way up to the Executive Director. Becky was in charge of over 187 employees. My conversation with Becky took a direction that I did not expect. She attributes her success to the leadership traits that she has learned over the years, and quoted many of the very ideas and theories almost verbatim from our class lecture. That was an incredible experience to witness firsthand how these traits become behaviors and practices.…

Being part of an institution such as Latino Scholars of Promise has instilled many values in me. The Latino Scholars of Promise is a program that is dedicated to preparing soon to be college students for the future by developing leadership and preparing them for the real world. It has affected me as an individual and has affected other aspects of my life. Being part of a program like this one has helped me view my surroundings in a different way. I am able to see things differently and act in a way in which those beliefs could be used. Without the help of this program I would not be able to learn and put into practice the four values I hold dear today: perseverance, valor and leadership. There are so many instances in which I am driven and determined to use them such as my education, helping others succeed, and most importantly inspiring my…

New Orleans served as the host city for the 2016 leadership development institute (LDI) and committee chair training for the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC). NACAC, founded in 1937, is an organization of more than 15,000 professionals – both in the US and overseas – who serve students seeking post-secondary education. NACAC’s membership is comprised of professionals on the secondary side, namely high school college counselors as well as community-based organizations and private consultants that serve high school students in the college search process, and those on the post-secondary side, namely admissions counselors, directors of admission, and those in related roles in enrollment management at colleges and universities. NACAC’s 2016 LDI and chair training would bring together the president’s council (president, president-elect, and past president) for 23 national affiliates that represent 50 states and overseas, returning chairs and/or outgoing and rising chairs for 10 standing committees, roughly 15 NACAC Board of Directors, and more than 20 NACAC staff. My role at the meeting is my service as returning chair of the NACAC Inclusion, Access, and Success Committee – of which there are eight…

Leadership is the inspiration for desired response and getting work done through others (Tomey, 2009). The person, I have chosen to take part in helping me to do the interview, is T.E. She is a 30 year old African America. T.E. was born in Kingston, Jamaica on January 18, 1984 and lived there until she was ten years old. She grew up in poverty in an underserved community and suffered abuse at the hands of her stepfather. When she was ten years old her family moved to the United States to escape the poverty and ill treatment T.E. (personal communication, January 6, 2015). T.E. was able to overcome the abuse she suffered as a child. She developed into a productive citizen of society. She was able to channel the pain she suffered as a child into becoming a nurturer and caregiver to help those in need. She worked in an underserved community as a means of giving back to the community and served the underserved aggregate. I had the pleasure of working with T.E. for five years. I have watched her career advancement over these years and discovered that she is a wonderful co-worker and friend. She has been a registered nurse (RN) for ten years. She started her nursing career in telemetry at Martin Luther King Jr. hospital in South Central Los Angeles working as a float pool traveler for two years. The “teraflops” supercomputers will become common over the next decade and with the advent of a new era in the world of parallel programming, the long cherished dream of the scientific community to get a substantially deep insight into the hitherto uncanny world of turbulence will at last take a realistic shape. The desire to become a part of this revolution, to collectively tackle the challenge expressed in the comment on top, has motivated me to opt for a career in research in the field of Computational Fluid Dynamics. In the long-term, I want to take up an exacting position, either in the academia or the industry, where I can do independent research on fundamentally challenging and technically demanding problems with an immediate relevance to the everyday world. Bearing these long-term goals in mind, my immediate objective is to work towards an M.S. leading to Ph.D., whose importance in laying a strong foundation for a successful career in research is paramount.…

I XXXX have successfully enrolled with XXXX, XXXX to pursue 2 years Diploma in Culinary Management in XXXXX Intake. I have decided to study in this area because when I started attending school, I was asked about what I wanted to be when I grew up and my answer always keep on changing ever since. I have always dreamed of being known of something important something that would make a difference in everyone's routine, even it meant a typical meal or a box of delicious cookies to cheer someone up. But most of all it had to be something that would defy my creativity and allow it to be boundless, In order that I would always feel passionate and enthusiastic about my work. All along culinary arts were present in my life, in myself. I always feel happy about my cooking and constantly try to improve and learn more about it. Today I can finally say for sure that my dream is to be a Chef and since my talent and satisfaction rely more on cooking desserts, I wish to become a Pastry Chef. I often feel motivated by Chefs like Gordon Ramsey, Harpal Singh Sokhi, Sanjeev Kumar, and Pastry Chef Bartolo Valastro, Jr. However, nowadays I aspire much more as I see myself in the future managing a bake shop or a restaurant worthy of rewards resembling the famous Michelin Star. I have chosen to study abroad because I believe that the English language is one of the most important means of communication in whichever industry and as a result I consider that it is the best option to reach out for national and especially international attention. Among all of the options offered, Ottawa, Canada seemed the most fitted to me. Canada is a world leader when it comes to education, its high academic standard and rigorous quality control ensured me of my future and career for a long term. A Canadian diploma or degree is recognized in the world. Living standards in Canada are also amongst the highest in the world. In spite of these high standard cost of education…

The ever growing world of science and technology has enticed me from a younger age itself. This allure towards technology especially the art and science of measurement, control, design, construction and maintenance of instruments and the fact that the whole instrumentation system is the soul of any industry (small or large) is that which drove me into taking Electronics and Instrumentation as my undergraduate degree course. I strongly believe that the backup of a managerial degree along with my technical degree can help me achieve my ultimate career objective of being a technocrat manager.…

As a youngster growing up in a small town in central Iran I used to have a vague picture of pursuing a PhD degree in America. Most everyone with whom I shared my dream of studying in USA used to volunteer an opinion that I would stand no chance to achieve such a purpose. All along there was only one single prominent person in my life who always supported me in my quest to excel in learning: My Mom. Inspired by my Mom’s support and the burning desire to prove to others that I am able to make my dreams come true I decided to draw a road map to success where first step winning admission from Allame Tabatabaei High which is the best high school in the province. It was at Allame where one of my first turning points of my life occurred; I got familiar with one of the most attractive branches of Natural Science, Physics. My admiration grew by day towards scientists like Albert Einstein and Stephen William Hawking, leading me to the point which I decided to participate in Regional Olympiad of Physics. Though I passed the first level, the lack of a well designed training program in the province prevented me from a successful attempt in the national level. However, I did not lose faith. In fact, it made me stronger and also ever firmer in my belief in this saying: “if there is a dead-end, then go through it”. With this attitude I could manage to achieve an excellent result – and also got to the second major turning point in my life – in the National University Admission Exams. In 2007 I attained the rank of 311 in my local region and 835 nationwide, among approximately 500,000 participants. This gave me a wide spectrum of options to choose my desired field of study as well as my university. Due to my solid background in mathematics as well as my high interest in engineering and mathematical sciences, I chose Industrial Engineering at Sharif University of Technology -the top…

The reason why I applied to this exchange program is that I have a dream to experience a global education. Going overseas will open up my horizons, encouraging to be a more independent individual. Overseas, I will not only spend much time studying but I will also willingly participate in activities in the university, shaping me into a more holistic individual. By immersing myself in their local culture, I am able to learn new skills that are beyond textbooks. Equipped with the new skills I picked up in my exchange program, I will return to NUS as a more mature and proficient student. Along with that, I will also share with my peers the insights I have gained from my trip, allowing them to benefit from my experience. On top of that, I will apply all that I have learnt overseas to further enhance and excel in my academics and to my career in the future. Likewise, I am thus able to contribute in bringing NUS to greater heights of academic excellence. I would also like to cultivate and foster new friendships and bonds with not only the exchange students but also with the locals. As an ambassador of NUS, I will offer them insights on the education system in Singapore, particularly the dynamic study regime in NUS. This way, not only do I benefit from the students over there but I am also able to bring to them an Asian perspective on the issues at hand. By engaging with the local students, I will be able to open their minds about the holistic education system we have here in NUS and hopefully evoke and propel their interest in coming to Singapore for their exchange program.…
