Scholarship Essay - Full-time MBA Program with International Focus
I graduated from the University of Kansas exactly five years ago this month and thoughts of going back to school to get my MBA have filled my head every day since. It has been a dream of mine to follow in my mother's footsteps and get an MBA with a focus on entrepreneurship. Now that I have been accepted into the MBA program at Loyola Marymount University my dreams are coming true, I am pursuing my MBA with a focus not only on entrepreneurship but also on marketing, I couldn't ask for anything more. Well that is I almost couldn't ask for anything more.

I am applying for the selected scholarships and grants in hopes of getting some help in paying for this expensive venture. I am not currently employed, not because I do not want to work, but because the family that owns the event marketing company where I had been working for over two and a half years did not think it was a good idea for me to go back to school and get my MBA. Basically they saw no benefit to their company and therefore rather than work around my class schedule, they instead let me go. I plan to get a part time job, hopefully as a Graduate Assistant on campus to help foot some of the tuition bill. My husband is a Beverly Hills police officer in-training, which means that he puts in many hours, both in classes and on the street, with high hopes of someday making a good living, the emphasis here on the someday. All in all we make enough to pay our expenses, but with both of us facing costly tuition bills this fall, loans are going to have to cover what scholarships and grants do not.

I work hard at what I do and I have been rewarded for my efforts along the way. While in high school, through DECA, a non-profit educational marketing foundation, I wrote an extensive business plan for the ground floor construction and successful operation of a community-based teen center. My efforts were rewarded with an academic college scholarship for entrepreneurship from the American Women's Business Association.

One of my greatest accomplishments was graduating from the University of Northern Colorado with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in finance. While working a full-time job consecutively juggling school activities I completed my degree in three and a half years. I was encouraged by my grandfather who was once a Dean of Educational Services at Miami University and consequently had a long legacy of being a superior educator. Completing my degree and starting a career in Banking at Wells Fargo brought an abundance of pride to me and my family. Starting as a Teller I worked my way to becoming a Branch Manager in four years. After devoting ten years in Retail Banking I transitioned to Business Banking. Within six months I became a Business Banking Administration Manager, managing Business Banking Associates and operations among 5 different locations. Three years later I learned that a Business Banking reorganization was going to happen furthermore, I amongst numerous others…

Since the age of 7 years old, I have been a participant of the benevolent organization Junior Achievement. My earliest memory of being a participant of Junior Achievement is when Mr. Michael Troutman visited the Boys & Girls Club of Trenton/Mercer County in 2006.Mr. Troutman taught a lesson about entrepreneurship and I was immediately compelled to learn, when he mentioned how successful entrepreneurs make a lot of money. Using what I had learned from the lesson, I started a candy business. I ran the candy business from June to late August and made a very satisfying profit. Ever since Mr. Troutman came to the Boys & Girls Club, I have stayed involved in Junior Achievement.…

Today, many students are beginning to work while in college. Over the past few years, tuition, room and board, and other school expenses have become more and more expensive. There are many types of financial aid available, such as loans, government grants, and scholarships that could help me pay for my college education. However, some of us are not lucky enough to receive “free money” from the government or a scholarship. For people like me who need to take out a loan in order to get through college, a job is necessary to make the monthly payments. I recently started my first semester in college to hopefully major in business administration in a couple years. I also got myself a part-time job managing finances at my brother’s body shop to pay for some expenses and carry some extra money. Through my experiences combining work and college, I have noticed there are many struggles, great ways to manage those struggles, and great benefits,…

I am applying for the Gift Fund and Social Work Advocate scholarships. My work ethic and commitment to education qualifies me for both these scholarships. Two of the most treasured values my parents passed on to me were a strong work ethic and an appreciation for what I earn. Growing up, it was my responsibility to pay for things that I wanted, and my parents provided me with work opportunities around the house to earn the money. As a result, I learned not only how to plan, save, and work hard for the things I wanted, but I learned to value those things as a result of all the hard work required to obtain them. Today, minus remaining on my parents’ insurance policy, I continue to pay for all my expenses, including my tuition, books, rent, and…
