School Counselor Philosophy Essay

My philosophy of the role of the school counselor is that school counselors play a tremendous role in the life of their student and is very important for us, school counselors to be aware of our role in the students’ life. We play a big role in their development of different areas such as personal development, career/academic development, and social development. As stated by Erford (2010), The range of concerns and problems that professional school counselors are expected to address continues to grow as the dynamics of the larger society which affect the readiness and behavior of students in school (Erford, 2010). I believe this information is important because clearly our role as a school counselor is complex and comprehensive and therefore, is important for us implement a comprehensive school counseling program which will help us promote student’s success and to meet all the needs of our students.
When the ASCA National Model talk about leadership, they refer to the importance of providing leadership for the development of a comprehensive counseling program which will help us school counselor to solve problem with school and community groups which promote student’s achievement. Therefore, leadership plays an importance in our role as a school counselor. As stated in the ASCA National Model, advocacy is very essential in our role as a school counselor, because advocating for every single one of our students to meet high academic standards, career and personal standards can help us make sure that the need from our students are been addresses throughout the K-12 experience (ASCA National Model,
