School Days Memory
1) School days were the same from day to day most times. School lunches were at the same time every day at morning. They were great because I got satisfied, I always see my friends, and I got to burn energy. Before lunch everyday my teacher would have the whole class clean up the classroom. After we were done she let us to make a line up alphabetically, and always I was stand in the last because I am the tallest one. And she say for us to walk down the hallway. I see posters and artwork on the walls. Usually were things that made with our class or a different class. On our way down the hall, I look into other classrooms and see other classes get ready for lunch. I could smell the cook foods and hear loud noises coming from the lunch room.

2) When I got up to the counter I would grab a lunch tray. Then I would talk to the lunch lady who was there. She always had the same white shirt and pants with a blue apron on and it was stained with food. After a word with her she would give me Mac and cheese that had bits of hotdog in it, corn or green beans, a piece of cake and a pint of white or chocolate milk. After I got my food I would look around the lunch room to find the right spot to eat my food. It always keep me satisfied. I was so full I sometimes wanted to take a nap. thats why i love the school when i was in my

At the time I was pretty young, just finished the third grade at St. Henry School and I was feeling comfortable. But sometimes I will soon find out, is not always a good thing. At this time I was living in very green and warm Nashville, Tennessee. It was the beginning of August and it was almost time to head back to school. But at that point school sat in the very back of my mind as I was totally focused on trying to have the best time before summer ended. School hadn’t really been said between my mom which was kinda weird because normally we were on the…

    Zoot Suit Riots

Zoot suits, associated with the Mexican race, consisted of a long jacket that reached almost to the knees, pants with a "tight stuff cuff", a "wide, flat hat, and Dutch-toe shoes" (Berger 193). These zoot suits were worn by the Mexican youth who were accused of murder on August 2, 1942. People claimed that Jose Diaz was murdered by a gang that had broken up a party at Sleepy Lagoon ranch located close to Los Angeles. However, even though the lower court did convict them of murder, two years later the district court of appeals took that decision back by stating that there was not enough good evidence and that most of that decision was made based on prejudice issues. This incident became known as the "Sleepy Lagoon Affair" and was made an international topic, especially when it was made to look like Americans were making it a point to harm Latin-American citizens. Afterwards, the "Sleepy Lagoon Affair" opened the doorway to much more discrimination against Mexicans and brought many more riots to Los Angeles between Mexicans and Americans (Gorn 183).…

I thought it was going to be a normal day in first grade.. Boy was I wrong! We were learning about different plants and animals. And of course, insects. At the time, I went to an elementary school called Thunder Mountain Elementary, in Grand Junction. We were sitting in groups and the lights were off with the projector on. If I remember correctly, we were also taking notes. Our teacher, Ms. White was, well, teaching us. That’s kinda what teachers do. Maybe teachers do other things we aren’t aware of.. Nah. In second grade, teachers were like, Einstein and the smartest of mentors, not saying that people still don’t think that now. Teachers are awesome and have some of the best or worst stories to tell. But, before today, I didn’t really mind…

All I remember was how it looked like a ghost town. There were hardly any cars on the road and nothing looked open.. This was not what I was used to. We checked into our room at the Holiday Inn, our new house for a little over a month while finding a house to buy, and I shortly fell asleep, being exhausted from our 12 hour journey. Me, my mom, stepdad, sister, and my cat were all crammed into a little, one room, hotel with two beds and one bathroom, I was miserable. For about a week and a half, a played hookie and helped my mom house hunt. Eventually, she decided I had been out of school long enough. That next morning, my mom pulled me into Guntersville Middle School. I was worried because I was ridiculously shy and figured I would have an extremely hard time making friends, but oh was I wrong. Before homeroom was over everyone in the sixth grade class knew there was a ‘new girl from Texas’. That’s when I met Charlie Conner and Anna…

That year, during the "free" period during the start of each day we were assigned to the same classes. We'd sit in our science teacher's room and learn about upcycling, or the gym and opt out of dodge ball to talk about bands or how I thought you looked like Leonard Nimoy for some reason. We'd even speculated that Spock was your dad. You got me into new music, tv shows, books, movies. You encouraged my writing, even though it was bad, you'd even done the whole banana bat thing. The last day of school we'd even had a fake sword fight with our yearbooks out of sight from everyone else.…

It was two in the morning. I got out of bed, running on three hours of sleep. I ran downstairs after getting ready for a long bus ride. I saw my mom and grandpa waiting downstairs, as my grandpa was going on the trip with me. When at the school, teachers checked our bags, kind of like the airport. After this check, we were off (well, about an hour later). Now it was off on our new home for the next 12 hours. For the first three hours, everyone slept. It was boring and I will skip that. We then pulled over for our breakfast stop. When we stopped, the teachers passed out our boxes of bagels. We proceeded to get back on the road next, which was a rather long time. About four hours of driving through Ohio farms and Pennsylvania hills,…

My 6th-grade year was what I had thought, what I had hoped, high school would be like. We had more freedom than most and were able to get soda for lunch. My school also had a game room that we were allowed to go into after lunch, if out our grades were good, that is.…

The summer following my sixth grade year was full of kick the can, capture the flag, ghost in the graveyard, and many more games played with the neighborhood kids. Some games got out of hand at times. As I tried to tag Conner to stop him from scoring in our little game of capture the ball, I seemed to forget I had a tree in the middle of my yard and I ran straight into it. Once during a competition of “America’s Got Talent” Logan mooned all of us, leaving us girls petrified. Then one hot summer night I was running the bases as we continued our game of whiffle ball while Trenton started to pee in the open onto our homemade bases made of rocks... he didn’t receive chocolate chip cookies with the rest of us that night. Out of all our eventful times the one I treasure most is when we set up our own little camp site. We found two tents and connected them both in my backyard. We slept outside, one tent for the boys and one for the girls. Eventually the boys got scared by a gunshot we heard in the distance so they joined us but were kept at a distance by my mother who kept an eye on us that night. Long games of truth or dare were…

Throughout history, each generation has faced a unique problem regarding its technology and its constant struggle with man. In the 21st century the prevalence and availability of technology is on a much greater scale, yet we are still faced with the same types of problems that plagued past generations. Even though these problems have become more and more complex as technology advances the same issues of how technology should be regulated, how technology should be implemented and who has access to this technology have remained constant issues. The issue of network neutrality or more commonly called net neutrality is often regarded as the primer issue in today's telecom and communications world yet it is ignored, underestimated and pushed to the backburner of many mainstream media outlets. Net neutrality is very critical to the future of the internet, the media and by society as a whole.…

I remember the first day of school. I was so excited and nervous at the same, feeling like i had a pit in my stomach. Me and my dad were doing a line that was for the new students. Growing up, Sedaris had a good life. He had a loving family that supported him and made sure he was well taking care of. Sedaris’ friend, Hugh had a very difficult lifestyle. When Hugh was growing up as a child, he saw things that children should not be forced to witness. Hugh’s class took a field trip to a slaughterhouse one day, where they were treated to a pig’s execution. “…One of the brothers drew a pistol from his back pocket, held it against the animal’s temple, and shot the piglet, execution-style.” (Paragraph 6, page 109) At another occasion, Hugh witnesses a dead man on a telephone pole. “Unlike me, he left the theater two hours later, to find a dead man hanging from a telephone pole at the far end of the unpaved parking lot.” (Paragraph 10, page 110) Hugh was often neglected by this family and spent majority of his adolescence with surrogate parents. Hugh’s life wasn’t the not good at all but Sedaris wanted Hugh’s life.…

I can remember my mother telling me for a few weeks before the first day how wonderful school was going to be and how I would meet loads of new friends. She also told me that the other kids are going to be scared just like I was. Turning five years old, and knowing that it was time for me to begin school already, was really very scary. The thought of waking up early and going to school and not being with my mom all morning made me feel sick to my stomach, but I just had to suck it up and go. The first day of kindergarten I was sad but also excited at the same time because I was going to meet new friends and I was going to get to play with them during recess. I remember walking into school with my new back pack; they were the ones that had to two little wheels on it so you wouldn't have to carry it.…

    - July 2008- When I lived in Broward, I had a humongous mango tree that my cousin, Kenneth, and I liked to climb. It was still summer when we decided to get an old mattress and put it by the tree so we could relax there. One of those days my little cousin, Kevin, wanted to learn how to climb the mango tree. Back then Kenneth was still young and devious; he treated his little brother and sister (Kevin & Kelly) horribly. So that one day someone, I’m guessing it was Kenneth, moved the mattress. So I stayed down incase they decided to drop a few mangos, but to my surprise my little cousin was hanging from a branch, which had not yet broken because he was so small. I had not yet noticed the moved mattress, as I was watching my cousin try to grab his little brother. But I was mistaking when I thought he was trying to grab him because he was just stretching his arm to tickle Kevin. And as I told Kenneth to stop, Kevin just let go with laughter. As I remember it, it looked as though it was all in slow motion; Kenneth laughing on the mango tree, Kevin with eyes wide open falling to his pain. As I watched Kevin’s impact with the ground, he seemed to bounce about two times. After a few hours the doctor said he fractured his arm.…
