School sports decrease obesity because of all the exercise. Without the sports, most kids would continue their obnoxious eating habits without burning the calories off. According to eatright.org, a teenage boy should eat 2,220 to 3,200 calories a day and teenage girls 1,800 to 2,400 calories a day. Most teens do not have a caloric balance (balance of calories being eaten and calories being burned). Meaning, most of them eat more than they burn. Exercise and team sports help to increase the amount of students with a caloric balance.
