Two mothers had a conversation about their children. “I can never get my screenagers to go play outside.” “you think that’s bad? My screenagers are 20 pounds overweight and have damaged retinas! Thanks for all the time that they spend in front of the computer.” 1.1 1.2 Wait, screenagers? What are they? What does this mind-boggling word mean? Screeangers describes teenagers who spend too much time in front of a computer or a television screen.

The words screen ( an LCD or monitor) and teenager (adolescent) make up the word screenager. 2.1 Rushkoff ( 1997) defines screenagers as techno-savvy people, reared on television and computer screens. 2.2 The term was coined by Douglas Rushkoff in his book, Playing the Future.

A teenager who wastes his time infront of a television can be named as a screenager 3.1 A teenager who has a “deep passion” in playing xbox or playstation in their televisions probably is a screenager. 3.2 And if a teenager loves to waste his/her time by watching television shows or watching movies, he/she is probably screenager.

One may be also called a screenager when a teenager lavishly kills his time infront of a computer 4.1 If you encountered a teenager who is really fond of chatting with people, watching online viceos or just surfing the net. You can say that he/she is a screenagager. 4.2 Maybe it’s a common sighting for others but those tens that are addicted in playing computer games are considered as screenagers.

Of course, we all know that too much of everything is bad. Using the computer and the television too much can have a bad effect to us. As citizens, we should help these teenagers overcome their addiction in order for them to be free from the abyss that they are experiencing
