Self Driving Should Be Mandatory Essay

You step into the car and close the door. The car's engine roars as it starts up and speeds forward. The car, going faster than ever is not under your control. It swerves to the right and left as you're sitting in the backseat. You're neck whip lashing everywhere until it hits the window. While you're passed out, the car slams into a street light and is destroyed. Still crammed inside, you wake up when the firemen are taking you out of your car. Many of your bones are broken and blood dripping down your face every which way. Will this happen to you, if self-driving cars become mandatory? Will you trust your life in the hands of a computer? Self-driving cars should not be mandatory for everyone and we should be able to choose if we want to drive
Many crashes and court cases have to do with people under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Autonomous cars will fix deaths from crashes because of driving while under the influence. In about 53 minutes someone dies from driving with alcohol in their system, and 16% of vehicle crashes were from people with drugs in their system. Lastly, More than 100 million people die every year because of drunk driving, that's a little less than one-third of us population!(centers for disease control and prevention 1). Autonomous cars may save drunk drivers but there are many problems with it. Many people stay away from drinking and drugs on nights where they drive home because they don’t want to crash. These cars will influence the use of drugs and alcohol throughout the world. This will also make it easier for, people to transfer illegal drugs across the United states and in other countries. many people are caught with illegal drugs when they are driving weird and the police can smell the scent. It will be harder for them to become arrested which will make many people smuggle them into their cars because they will rarely ever get pulled over.
