At the beginning of the movie “Glory” there is an obvious segregation between whites and blacks, captain Shaw seemed to be of the vast minority that treated African American’s with some sort of decency. Shaw was hard on his men but only because he wanted them to be great soldiers. The overall attitude towards African American’s is what you would expect from the time. Most white men look at themselves as far superior as the black men. Even though the African Americans have volunteered to risk their lives as soldiers, they still all feel basically as slaves and tread lightly around officers. Captain Shaw along with the rest of the white men in the camp have a hard time relating at all to the black men because of how different their lives were up to that point.. Captain Shaw believes highly in treating all men equally, unlike the rest of his white counterparts.…

The movie Glory was a wonderful depiction of the group of men involved in the 54th Massachusetts colored regiment. The men of the 54th regiment were part of the first black regiment to serve in the U.S. military and were all volunteers. Lead by twenty-three year old Robert Gould Shaw these men were held a high amount of pride, enthusiasm, and bravery as they willingly fought against all of the racial harshness of the U.S. military system. The men of the 54th regiment put up with stereotypes and unacceptable training conditions - while being consistently being challenged to actually stay in the military and not desert. Glory depicts all of the issues that surrounded the 54th regiments black solders and white captions with amazing character portrayals. Commanding leader of the 54th regiment was Robert Gould Shaw, a twenty-three year old man who is consistently impressed with the men of the 54th regiment but faces the hard task of getting the rest of the military to take his men seriously as solders. Major Cabot Forbes was a childhood friend of both commander shaw and solder Thomas Searles. Throughout the movie Forbes is shown as being the most lenient on black troops and questions Shaw’s commanding decisions often. Sargent John Rawlins is the first black solder given the honor of becoming a Sargent due to the boycott of pay by him and the men of the 54th regiment. Throughout the movie Rawlins is portrayed as a mature voice of reason for both the black troops and the white officers. In fact Shaw asked Rawlins to be a communicator between him and the black troops. Thomas Searles is a black childhood friend of both Shaw and Forbes. Searles was the first to sign up as a volunteer to the 54th regiment, but is encouraged through out the movie to quit due to his lack of ability as a solder. Jupiter Sharts is a black man solder who encourages a positive attitude through out the movie, but seems to be faced with the challenge of being socially and worldly…

    Low Self Esteem Essay

Racism in America produced low self-esteem in many black people. Racism devaluated black people’s image of self. Racism made blacks feel inferior as a people, inadequate which produced self-doubt and feelings of unworthiness. One way in which many black men have learned to cope with racism is by developing a since of worth according to the scriptures (Mk. 12:31; Rom 12:3; Eph. 5:1-2). The biblical view of self-esteem is directly related to one possessing humility. In Craig W. Ellison’s book, “Your Better Self: Christianity, Psychology and Self Image” he says, “True humility, not pride, is the biblical counterpart of positive self-esteem. Humility is about loving yourself, not self-hatred, and it owes its affirmation to God’s…

On the self-assessment inventory, I scored between 76 and 88 out of 100 on each key competency except for the Change and Across Cultures competencies. My scores were within the numerical range for 68% of managerial professionals that completed this self-evaluation. For the most part, I see myself as very good on a number of the skills such as balancing my personal and work life, embracing uniqueness, supporting the goals of a team, and making ethical business decisions. For the Across Cultures competency, I am lacking in global experience and the skills to recognize the differences of various cultures and customs. In addition, I need to improve on recognizing, leading, and implementing adaptations when needed by teams and organizations.…

    Merit And Success Essay

I believe in people who immigrate to America; they have the same dream-“American Dream.” The people who have the “American Dream” surely believe the U.S has meritocracy, which means they aware that there are plenty of opportunities to be successful in America if ones have good work ethic, put in their full effort to their careers, have an open-mind set, and willingly catch up with the newest technology, they can be successful. Unfortunately many people still stubbornly think success is mostly not due to merit, instead believe these elements such as luck, wealth, family background, or even races. Overall, I never see anyone who is lazy, laid-back and careless can be successful, but I do see people who work hard,…

I prefer to be true to myself, even at the endangerment of finding the ridicule of others, rather than to be false, and finding my own detestation. Why should I worry about what others think of me? I don’t give a shit about how others perceive my personality because to begin with, I know myself and I also know my own demons — in which, at the outset, are just conventional behaviors of an ordinary human being.…

Out of all the things I own, I am most thankful of the things that made me who I am now. Last Thanksgiving, I lost my chance to give thanks to a special person of my life, and so I don’t want to loose my chance of giving thanks ever again. I appreciate all that happened from the start of my life till now. I am thankful of being born, thankful for being loved, thankful for being able to write this essay.... But out of all these things I’m thankful of, there are some that I think build my personality the most. Without these, I would not be who I am now. I’m glad of being who I am, and being able to appreciate being who I truely am. There are many others who cannot appreciate themselves and others. Luckily I’m not one of them, therefore, I am here to give thanks. This Thanksgiving, I am thankful for being alive and healthy, for my…

During my college level education, I have been very intrigued by the field of science. Specifically, the subject which interests me the most is microscopic molecules and organisms. The class that I believe sparked my interest was my second semester of general biology at Paradise Valley Community College. During this class, I was introduced to the intricate details of cells and the idea that microscopic organisms outnumber all other living things on Earth. After reading the case study I’m still me I have really thought in a different manner to a couple different issues. I never really opened my eyes to people with disabilities and the problems they face on a daily basis until after reading this story of these two brave men. It has made me think about the problems that they face growing up after being born with these disabilities and also the struggles that people have to face when they don’t get disabled until the long years ahead. While reading this story I thought a lot about the family issues they face, the working field for people with these daily challenges, and also just the fact of them being accepted in the world as a normal human being. These things really touched my heart not realizing the things they go through that so many people take advantage of on a daily basis.…
