(Jessica) STEM Nola has educated over 4000 children from over 250 schools in the New Orleans area. Dr. Mackie has successfully targeted children from low-income families, providing 88 percent of participating children free access to STEM Nola events.
Situational Analysis
Strengths
(Lauren) STEM Nola’s fundamental strength is that it has already accomplished its main goal. This goal is to expose youths, especially minority and low-income children, to the importance of STEM. Another strength of the company is the cultural and environmental relevance. STEM Nola is maintained by using project-based activities personally designed by Dr. Mackie. Another strength is the affordability of the company. As mentioned before, most children do not pay to attend STEM Nola. Children who receive free lunch at their school do not have to pay for STEM Nola. All other children pay a set price of $60, which is cheaper than similar educational programs. However, if the cost exceeds a family’s abilities, then STEM Nola is willing to work with the family. STEM Nola has many strengths that contribute to its success. Other forms of marketing will help attract families with high incomes. Unlike competitors, STEM Nola does not utilize advertising, direct marketing, or sales promotions. STEM Nola should start advertising in New Orleans because advertising is the most cost effective way to reach large number of people. Advertising helps provide information and influence perceptions; thus, helping improve brand identity and recognition.
