The second weakness I have is sometimes I get too emotionally involved. Sometimes I listen to complaints all day and it could get overwhelming. When supervisors share their personal issues with me, I am there to listen to them and provide guidance, but at the same time I feel too
involved in their daily lives.
The third weakness I have is getting negative feedback. I try to ignore the criticism given to me, which would limit my ability to develop professionally. In order for me to develop trust and to be a better leader, I should be willing to be open-minded about the feedback I receive to improve myself.
Three theory-based changes
The goal of servant leadership is to nurture the people within an organization. “Accordingly, critical skills that the servant leader needs to develop include: appreciating the personal requirements of those within the organisation; healing wounds caused by conflict; being a steward of the organisation’s resources; developing the skills of those within the organisation; and, being an effective listener” (Lavery, 2011). In order to maximize my success in managing organization and leading people in the future these are three theory-based changes I could do. The first is to build open communication between the supervisors. When the supervisors are working together, they can build the trust between each other to become a team. This will help them work more efficiently together, as they are able to learn from one another. The morale of the supervisors will also increase. The second change I could make is to work on one of my lower habits, which was to begin with the end in mind. I would need to more detailed and set guidelines for the supervisors so they have clear understanding of their expectations. This will also eliminate any ambiguity supervisors may have and help them have more trust in me. The third is to be able to take criticism with grace. As a leader, I should be able to provide constructive criticism to the supervisors in order for them to improve themselves. In return, I should also take their constructive criticism as a learning tool to help me become a more effective leader.
