Shadow Dr. Tysinger At Countryside Pet Hospital: Case Study
I chose to shadow Dr. Tysinger at Countryside Pet Hospital. She works as one of three veterinarians at the hospital. Ever since I was a little girl I have wanted to be a veterinarian. I have a love for animals and anytime I see an animal that needs care I want to be there to help it. This passion of mine inspires me to pursue this career. People are always surprised that I have never wavered from my desire to be a veterinarian . My goal is to become a veterinarian and provide the same quality of care that Dr. Tysinger and the staff at Countryside Pet Hospital provide to their patients.
My first day at Countryside Pet Hospital began the moment I arrived. I arrived around 7:50 and pets were coming in to get blood work done by 8:15. Layla was

It was important that Dr. Tysinger operate on her right away because her infected uterus was life threatening. Before Daphne’s surgery, the veterinary technicians took a CBC on her. A CBC is a complete blood count which includes red cells, white cells, and platelets. A Bichon Frise named Pippin was started on a glucose curve because he is diabetic. One of the veterinary technicians, Robin, put Layla the Terrier Mix on anesthesia so she could clean her teeth. A Coonhound named Boomer was waiting to be neutered. I got to witness this procedure, which I was very excited about. As the procedure was being done by Dr. Tysinger, she was explaining everything she was doing and why. I found very helpful. After Boomer had been neutered, it was to …show more content…
Dr. Tysinger said: “The afternoons are not as busy as the mornings are.” (Tysinger, Karen, Dr. "Shadowing for BHHS Honors English Paper." Personal interview. 18th July 2017). Most of the animals that were already there and the ones that came for appointments were getting baths, vaccinations, or blood drawn for heartworms. They hospital had a dog come in who needed sutures because she had been in a dog fight. It made my heart hurt to see the dog in pain. She had two holes in the back of her neck and her ear had been split open. Her name was Ily. When prescriptions were being done for a client I would run them up to the front desk for the receptionist, Rina. As the day went on and the appointments were finishing up, I got to help wipe out and clean cages and cage pads. After the cages had been cleaned, we put new newspaper and towels in all of the

First, a career in veterinary technologist and technician would bring me great personal satisfaction. I enjoy working, helping out, and simply being around animals. For example, Julie Legred, a veterinary technician and executive director at the National Association of veterinary technicians in America, says, “We do everything except diagnose, prescribe and do surgery. They often work in private clinics and animal hospitals, assisting veterinarians with the care of animals” ("Veterinary Technologist and Technician"). Without veterinary technologists and technicians,…

In A Dog Walks into a Nursing Home, Sue Halpern writes about her experience training her Labradoodle Pransky for animal assisted therapy. Pransky is about seven years old when the process starts. Halpern thought it would be a good idea because her husband was working more, her daughter was in school, and Pransky is very bored sitting at home all day. The audience senses Halpern’s enthusiasm transition into apprehension when she learns the extent of the training during the six weeks needed to become a therapy dog. She works with the dog right up until the time of the test, and they end up passing the test, much to Halpern’s delight. The animals are taken to these rooms to be put down or operated on. The exam rooms give off a compassionate feel regardless of the pain that occurs within the room because through that pain the animal finds peace. The rooms felt small and closed off from the rest of the clinic, which provides privacy for the owner and the pet. The walls glow bright green with pictures of healthy and happy animals hanging for the owners to see. The only sound heard is the vet talking to the owner and the pet. The room gives off a feeling of warmth and optimism.…

For if the horses could not do their job, then the riders could not find joy and a place to escape to. That is when I knew I wanted to become a veterinarian and be able to give back to my community. Convinced of my passion to study veterinary medicine, I have concentrated my undergraduate studies at the University of Central Florida (Go Knights!) in Biology where I will earn my Bachelors of Science degree this summer. I have taken a plethora of challenging courses that have provided me a broader concentration of the sciences. I believe this demanding course load has given me the knowledge to pursue my advanced degree, the dedication required to succeed, the necessary organizational skills needed in graduate school, and the perseverance for the rigors that lie ahead of me as a future veterinarian student.…

During our four hours at the shelter, we were assigned to walking the dogs, brushing them and cleaning out some of the cages. The work was easy and all of the animals that we came into contact with were friendly and loving. For the first hour, we were in charge of walking animals around a horseshoe shaped track to make sure that the animals are getting adequate exercise. We all had a sense of fulfillment because the animals looked happy to get out in the fresh air and stretch. For the next hour, we brushed them to make them look and feel clean. We were able to show the animals that people do care about them and spend quality time with them. It not only made us feel better and relax us from all the stress we are experiencing with exams coming up, but also made the animals relax a little more to the point where they could trust us and knew that we were there to help them. Even while we were playing with the animals, LMX…
