Shiloh--in Hell before Night By: James Lee McDonough I decided to read this book to learn about more about the Civil war and the Battle of Shiloh. With all the controversy currently going on about the Confederate monuments, I needed to be more informed about the Civil war. The most interesting part of the battle was the skirmish that was known as “The Hornets Nest”. The skirmish lasted about seven hours. The gunshots were so voluminous that they was thought to sound like a swarm of hornets.
