Should Biblical Creation Be Taught In Schools Essay
Should Biblical Creation be taught parallel with evolution in secular education? Or should ulterior theories aside from evolution only be considered religious dogma or myth? It could possibly be that the education system is accepting evolution as fact, when evolution is really a worldview in which we see the facts. The argument can then be made that if it takes faith to believe evolution, then Creationism is not religious dogma after all. Society should consider Biblical Creation as a competing explanation of the origins of life because both Biblical Creation and Evolution take faith, logic does not have to be compromised when one argues Biblical Creationism, and having multiple theories is healthy for students.
Biblical Creation should be considered a competing explanation of the origins of life because both Biblical Creation and Evolution take faith. Opponents of teaching Biblical Creation believe this view is not a valid argument because they consider the Bible as religious dogma that is the result of ‘faith’, not scientific fact. Both Evolution and Biblical Creation are worldviews, which means they require a certain level of assuming and faith to apply the theory. When putting faith into any theory, Biblical Creation or Evolution alike, it then transforms into the lens in which one will look at the science, statistics, and facts that are collected.     At first, it may appear as though there are many different explanations of how the earth came to be; however, with a closer look one can see that all explanations have the same message. Science and the Bible, often considered polar opposites, tell the same story just with different words. For instance, Genesis One and The World’s Biggest Membrane describe an ongoing process of creation. It is clear in Genesis One that God did not get it right the first time. After creating man God thinks, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” (2:18-19) Immediately following this thought God forms ‘wild animals’ and ‘all the birds in the sky’, unfortunately, this attempt is unsuccessful. I would agree with you that Old Earth Creationism seems the most probable, but like you said there is flaws in all the views and non are perfect. If you would like to explore this issue even further, I would recommend taking the class Science & Theology offered at Northwestern by Dr. Winslow and Dr. Shultz.
