Should guns be outlawed?
Recently, a question was asked if outlawing guns in the United States would help solve the high crime rates. I am not certain banning guns will solve the problem because people will figure a way to obtain guns just like they are able to obtain illegal drugs. The problem is not the guns, but the bad people that get a hold of guns. There are many benefits with owning a gun. Guns are used for hunting, recreation, and for protection against bad people with guns. According to "Could Guns Really Be Effectively Banned In America?" There is also the argument that most crimes are contributed to guns. In other words, fewer guns will result in fewer crimes. Even though we believe guns should not be allowed, there are many reasons for others to believe why guns should be outlawed. I want to first address some of the myths and facts about gun violence in the United States. The first myth is that there is an ever increasing decline in the numbers of Americans that support policies that would decrease the use of guns in violent crimes. This is not true due to the fact that an overwhelming majority of Americans support measures to eliminate gun violence through common sense measures. The second myth is the “Stand Your Ground” laws that they state are needed to defend our lives against imminent danger or death. The fact of the matter is that we as Citizens of the United States have always had an absolute right to defend ourselves and these laws only complicate the “Stand Your Ground” laws and in turn make many of our communities unsafe. The bottom line is that there has always been a degree of gun violence in the United States and the fact that guns are prevalent in our society and used by a wide range of citizens for many
