Similarities Between Romeo And Juliet
Analysis Romeo had just met Juliet at a party and they immediately fell in love. After the party Romeo leaves to go find Juliet. Romeo first has to hide so Benvolio and Mercutio don’t find him. After Benvolio and Mercutio leave because they cannot find Romeo. Romeo then sneaks into Juliet's garden and says a monologue. About how sweet and precious Juliet is. The amount of emotion given in this monologue is outstanding because it truly shows how much Romeo loves Juliet. He goes so far as to sneak into her garden (He can be killed because their families hate each other) and risk death even after they just met. This monologue depicted the actions for the rest of the play because it shows that Romeo will do anything to be with the woman he loves. …show more content…
The best symbolism he uses in the monologue in my opinion is the Jealous Moon reference. “It is the east, and Juliet is the sun. Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon,”(-Shakespeare - Act 2 Scene 2) To translate that into modern english it roughly means “Rise up, beautiful sun, and kill the jealous moon”. This is the best symbolism in the entire monologue because the “Jealous moon”reference means so much it states that. Diana is the goddess of the moon and of virginity. Romeo Implies that Juliet is a servant of the moon as long as she’s a virgin. Overall that is my favorite symbolism Shakespeare uses in this particular

Romeo and Juliet is a play of love and hatred. In the centre of it all is Juliet, barely fourteen and still reliant on her wet nurse, yet willing to take her own life then to live without the one she loves. In the short four days, in which the play takes place, Juliet faces more than most in a lifetime. She is forced into marriage, she secretly marries an enemy of her house, her new husband kills her cousin and is exiled only allowing her one night of wedded bliss. She has to pretend to kill herself only to find her husband dead beside her, after which she takes her own life. During this emotional rollercoaster Juliet changes from an innocent, naïve thirteen-year-old to a defiant and independent young heroine. I have chosen Act 1 Scene 3, Act 3 Scene 5 (lines 69-242), and her soliloquy in Act 4 Scene 4 to compare, as they show different stages of Juliet's change in character.…

However, in spite of the many differences, there are similarities between the two stories. Romeo and Juliet and “Teen Couple Executed by their Parents…for daring to fall in love,” both involve the deaths of the couples all happening at a young age, all of them dying before the age of 19 before any of their parents died. Throughout both stories a common factor is that the couples were forced to make adult decisions about their lives and love lives; while, the adults around them were making many poor decisions. Unlike many love stories where the strong, handsome male saves the damsel in distress, the female protagonists in both of these stories appeared to be stronger than their male counterparts. Maybe that is why when the time came, both mothers…

He says “Beauty too rich for use, for earth too dear” this is ironic because in the end it is her beauty which brings about her untimely demise. Romeo starts off with a metaphor “O, she doth teach the torches to burn bright” this again uses light imagery but the actual metaphor means her beauty is so bright that fire could learn from her. Romeo also says “For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night” this indicates that he is fickle because he thought he was in love with Roseline earlier that evening. He makes references to Juliet being some kind of goddess “make blessed my rude…

In this scene Shakespeare presents the relationship between Romeo and Juliet as a tragedy. I can tell this because it says ‘I must be gone and live’. This shows that Romeo knows he might die if he stays but he is choosing to stay to see Juliet. It also shows how much they love each other as Romeo is showing he would die for Juliet. By using the image of death, it shows that the story might become a tragedy. By including hints towards a tragedy, it keeps the audience interested. It also shows how bitter the feud is between the two families.…

The use the metaphor such as: “Juliet is the sun” that he refers to demonstrates Romeo’s feelings and love of Juliet. This quote complements her beauty by comparing her to a sunrise. Romeo also compliments her again by saying “Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon(another metaphor.)”…

By using metaphors, Romeo’s feelings and moodiness can be described thoroughly. His love for Juliet, and grief for Rosaline are shown in many imagery and personification terms. During the first scene of the play, he and Benvolio are discussing Rosaline, and her rejection of Romeo. Certain that his life is now meaningless, he rants to his friend:…

In any case, in Act Two Scene Two, the inclination is through and through more idealistic and Shakespeare utilizes a great deal of light symbolism, especially with how Juliet is depicted in Romeo’s mind. When he first sees her on the overhang, he thinks about her as the sun, a supplier of life. This obviously passes on Romeo's energy for Juliet, a splendid wellspring of light, and it has meanings of bliss and cheer, which stand out significantly from Romeo's past despairing. Besides, Romeo shouts that…

Shakespeare uses metaphors, many allusions, and some conceits in order to develop characterization. When Romeo stated "It is the east and Juliet is the sun, Arise fair sun and kill the envious moon" Shakespeare is using a metaphor to compare Juliet to the sun. This passage implies that Juliet is as great and as bright as the sun (good) which eliminates darkness (evil) as it arises, He also uses an allusion to metaphorically compare Juliet to Helios, the sun god, and is asking Juliet to arise and eliminate the evil of darkness, Artemis, the Greek moon goddess. Shakespeare also compares Paris to a book when lady Capulet says "Read o'er the volume of young Paris' face" which is a conceit to show the reading that Paris is like a perfect book and "only lacks a cover". The "cover" of a book is also another…

    F) Juliet says not to swear by the moon because it is always changing. If Romeo swears by the moon, Juliet takes it that his love will change. Juliet does not want Romeo to pledge his love in the name of something that fluctuates so cyclically. She wants him to swear to something permanent, and changing. Because the moon always changes, so according to Juliet she doesn't want Romeo's feelings for her to change they should stay truthful and the same.…

The second line of the soliloquy starts off by saying “It is the east, and Juliet is the sun/ arise fair sun and kill the envious moon,” (2.2.3). He is using a metaphor to compare her to the bright, beautiful sun. Then he personifies the sun by saying she awakes and kills the envious moon. A sun can not kill the moon, and the moon can not be envious of the sun. Another time personification is used would be when Romeo wishes, “ That [he] were a glove upon that hand/ That I might touch that cheek,” (2.2.24-25). He is saying that he wishes he were a glove on her so that he could touch her cheek, but the glove can not feel. Romeo also uses apostrophe when saying “... It is my lady, O it is my love/ O she knew she were,” (2.2.10-11). He is addressing his love, which is a personified figure. One can not speak to their love. He also speaks to Juliet, who is incapable of hearing because of the distance separating them. Both of these apostrophes are introduced by saying “O”. Hyperbole is used multiple times when Romeo is trying to emphasize Juliet’s beauty. One example of this being used is when Romeo is trying to highlight the beauty of her eyes. He does this by saying “Two of the fairest stars in all the heavens/ Having some business do entreat her eyes” (2.2.15-16). He also says that, “The brightness of her cheek would shame those stars,” (2.2.19) obviously her cheeks are not brighter than the stars so this would be a prime example of hyperbole. All of these literary devices are used to show Romeo’s extensive love for Juliet in a poetic, romantic way that Romeo uses throughout the…

The audience sees that Juliet, represented by the Sun, will always miss Romeo, represented by the night. This contrast is essential to creating dramatic irony in the play. The second way that this soliloquy functions in relation to the rest of the play, is that it provides a pivotal moment for Juliet’s character development. In Juliet’s last soliloquy, where she anxiously anticipates her Nurse’s news of the wedding arrangements, she displays impatience and immaturity. However, here her words are filled with eloquent…
