SOCIAL NETWORK - TRENDS AND CHALLENGES

Social network is a social structure made up of individuals or organizations which are connected by one or more specific types of interdependency, such as friendship, common interest, dislike, sexual relationship, knowledge or prestige. Logging on to social networking sites had been become inseparable for subscriber of Facebook, MySpace, etc. People of all age group are becoming very obsessed with social networks in this new technology era. Social network is a popular medium for communication, interaction and knowledge sharing on the internet. They depend on social network as main communication infrastructure rather than conventional communication methods.
Educational institutions are also using social network for teaching and learning purpose
Social network enables their users to express themselves in various options for free. Users can befriend, connect, exchanged views and opinions, etc. by using the social network. Human is able to connect themselves to the world through the internet everywhere and anytime they want.
This research was conducted among a small group of working adults aged 21 to over 40 years old. 30 people participated in this survey. All participants subscribe to Facebook while about 70% of participants subscribe to Friendster. 30% of the participants subscribe to Myspace account.
Social networking sites are fun, personal and useful to many people. However, people have to be aware of the bad implication of social networking sites and the new security risks that are involved in social networking sites.
Social networking sites are getting more popular among Malaysians. Many people nowadays could not resist for not logging into social networking sites for even one day. They feel connected to the cyber world and their friends by sharing their photos, videos, links and chatting with their friends in social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, etc. Some users are so addicted to social
