There are few relationships in my life that could compare to the complexity of the relationship that I share with my father. I grew up hearing stories of his childhood when he grew up in a military family with eleven brothers and sisters, moving from state to state in the deep humid south. I grew up idolizing him because of the crazy wacky adventures that he and his older brother (his best friend) would always be involved in. I always pictured myself in his brother’s shoes living the memories along with my father. He lived in a time where kids could run out of the house in the morning and not have to return until the moon rises, a time of peace and simplicity. In retrospect I think my dad and his brother must have the worst neighbors as they terrorized the banks of the bayous getting wrapped up into all sorts of mischief. In his stories he was presented with several choices, some good, some bad, he didn’t always make the best decisions but he always learned from them and engraved in me the importance of learning from my mistakes, a character trait that was deeply seeded into me since the day I could comprehend English. The reason that my fathers’ life lessons have stuck with me so well is because he doesn’t preach to me about good and bad, he lets me live my life and is always there to help me when I screw up allowing me to live and learn. The lessons that are most important in life are the ones you learn from your mistakes, something that my dad taught me and I’d never forget.…
When I was younger, my father worked three different jobs not just to manage the bills but to make sure that I got what I wanted. Rather than disappointing me, he chose to push himself harder. I remember the time that I wanted an Xbox 360, and he said that I couldn’t get it, due to the fact that there were other more important things to buy. and me not…

Over the past years of my life there has always been an important person who has impacted me in many different ways. Through his hard work, determination, and love for family, he has set an example for me to follow and has shaped me into the person I am today. Besides setting an example for me he has become such an important person; due to the support he has given me in the hardest moments of my life, and because of all the sacrifices he has made to provide an education for me. That person is still living today and I am proud to call him, father.…
When reflecting on personal influences in my life, no one has had a greater impact than my father. He is and always continues to be a positive role model as a father. He always stands by my side, and whenever I fall down, he encourages me to stand up by myself and on my own feet. My dad has a huge impact on the way I become a person today. He has influenced my life by teaching me the lessons and showing me the right behaviors and wrong behaviors…
As the youngest boy in my family, I considered myself to be the “Spoiled one”. While growing up it always made me sad to see my close friends and even the people on the TV without a father or even a father-like figure around. Seeing this made me appreciate how much of an impact my father has made on his children’s lives. To this day, he continues to profess how proud he is of me and my siblings, and that he will always be there to support us in whatever we choose to get involved in. In every aspect of my life, my father pushes me to excel as much as I possibly can. Whenever I feel like giving up on my dreams and goals, or if I have a question or concern, I know that I can always call on my father for advice. My father is a very loving man and I have learned from him that sometimes you have to put others needs before your own, but not to the point where you completely give up on your own needs.…
I challenge myself every day to become like my mother and father. I have recently faced a big challenge when my father passed away. In July of 2013, my father died unexpectedly. He had heart disease, which ultimately caused his death, but we didn’t know he had it until after he passed away. This has played a significant role in reminding me who I was raised by and the standards he has set. It has steered me toward proving my parents that I am a hard worker and will carry my culture respectfully throughout my life.…
