Someone who impacted my life
Most people will grow up following someone’s footsteps, whether it’s a family member, someone famous, or a role model. They have this dedication that they want to be just like this person, or completely opposite. I will follow every footstep of my dad’s, if I do not, then I fail my life goal. My dad is the most inspirational person in my life, with his success and his achievements, there is no one better to follow. “Started from the bottom, now we here” the quote everyone repeats over and over again, but most cannot relate. If you look at my father today, your first opinion is college graduate and someone who has had everything handed to him, you would be completely wrong. He grew up in the real ghetto on the outskirts of downtown Houston, no father, no real motivation to work or try in school. Barely getting by in school, a trouble maker, and probably more (but will not share that part of his life), his life was going nowhere. Forced to raise himself, he got his first job at Burger King. In high school is where he met my mother, soon after high school they got married. When it was announced his first born was coming, his mind switched to being a boy to being a man. His next few jobs were nothing, garbage man, mailroom, nothing more. Then he had a small job at a corporation. Nothing much, but enough to help support his family. He worked and worked all day and all night. We were always put before him; everything he did was to make sure we were happy. If he got a bonus, we would get new toys or clothes. He is the most unselfish person I know. I see him as the definition of a true man, he takes care of his family, puts us in front of himself, rarely spends a dime on something he really wants. As of right now, with no college degree, he was hired to be a VP of a corporation that’s salary beat Apple’s last year. This man is someone that everyone should be looking up to, in my opinion. He is smart, caring, thoughtful, and just all around a nice person. I learned

There are few relationships in my life that could compare to the complexity of the relationship that I share with my father. I grew up hearing stories of his childhood when he grew up in a military family with eleven brothers and sisters, moving from state to state in the deep humid south. I grew up idolizing him because of the crazy wacky adventures that he and his older brother (his best friend) would always be involved in. I always pictured myself in his brother’s shoes living the memories along with my father. He lived in a time where kids could run out of the house in the morning and not have to return until the moon rises, a time of peace and simplicity. In retrospect I think my dad and his brother must have the worst neighbors as they terrorized the banks of the bayous getting wrapped up into all sorts of mischief. In his stories he was presented with several choices, some good, some bad, he didn’t always make the best decisions but he always learned from them and engraved in me the importance of learning from my mistakes, a character trait that was deeply seeded into me since the day I could comprehend English. The reason that my fathers’ life lessons have stuck with me so well is because he doesn’t preach to me about good and bad, he lets me live my life and is always there to help me when I screw up allowing me to live and learn. The lessons that are most important in life are the ones you learn from your mistakes, something that my dad taught me and I’d never forget.…

As the youngest boy in my family, I considered myself to be the “Spoiled one”. While growing up it always made me sad to see my close friends and even the people on the TV without a father or even a father-like figure around. Seeing this made me appreciate how much of an impact my father has made on his children’s lives. To this day, he continues to profess how proud he is of me and my siblings, and that he will always be there to support us in whatever we choose to get involved in. In every aspect of my life, my father pushes me to excel as much as I possibly can. Whenever I feel like giving up on my dreams and goals, or if I have a question or concern, I know that I can always call on my father for advice. My father is a very loving man and I have learned from him that sometimes you have to put others needs before your own, but not to the point where you completely give up on your own needs.…

I challenge myself every day to become like my mother and father. I have recently faced a big challenge when my father passed away. In July of 2013, my father died unexpectedly. He had heart disease, which ultimately caused his death, but we didn’t know he had it until after he passed away. This has played a significant role in reminding me who I was raised by and the standards he has set. It has steered me toward proving my parents that I am a hard worker and will carry my culture respectfully throughout my life.…
