Sports Medicine Essay
We see athletes getting hurt almost every day. Many people do not think about the aftermath of what has happened. Sports Medicine helps those athletes get back into the game. The practice of sports medicine is also known as Sport and Exercise Medicine (SEM). It deals with the physical fitness, treatment and prevention of injuries related to either sports or exercise. Orthopedics is a large part of sports medicine. The most common sports related injuries are: concussions, muscle cramps, ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) sprains, ACL tears, ankle sprains, shin splints, muscle strains, groin pulls, hamstring pulls, and tennis elbow (inflammation of the elbow). Personally I have experienced four of the injuries I have stated above and am currently going through shoulder problems. I have wanted to be a sports medicine doctor since I was twelve years old. I have always found the human body to be fascinating. …show more content…
You must also have a Doctor of Medicine degree (M.D.) and a Bachelor’s degree. You must have acquired one to two years of additional training in Sports Medicine through one of the official Fellowship Curriculums in Sports Medicine. You also have had to pass a national Sports Medicine certification exam permitting them to hold a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine. The years of schooling that you have to have is undergraduate for 4 years, Medical School for an additional 4 years, you have to do a residency for 3 years, and a fellowship of 1-2 years. In order to avoid that built up of stress, people needed an escape. “A Clean Well-Lighted Place” by Ernest Hemingway is a short story where two waiters in a Spanish café are waiting one night for their last customer, an old deaf man, to leave. As they wait, they talk about the old man 's recent suicide attempt. The younger waiter is impatient to leave and tells the deaf old man he wishes the old man’s suicide attempt had been successful. The younger waiter has a wife waiting in bed for him and is unsympathetic when the older waiter says that the old man once had a wife. Hemingway 's omniscient third person narration allows readers to see what 's happening both inside and outside of the character 's minds. Hemingway gives out hints of what 's happening with the younger waiter and the old deaf man which allows the readers to understand how the author demonstrates the universal message that “Everyone desires a clean well-lighted place of their own to fend off the darkness”.
