Allahabad (IIIT) has one of the country’s most comprehensive curriculums in Computer
Science. Armed with such extensive study and the research opportunities that I had at the University of Vienna, Austria and at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de
Lausanne(EPFL), Switzerland, I firmly believe that I have the requisite background to pursue graduate studies at the Information Networking Institute of Carnegie Mellon
University.
The excellent course structure and research laboratories at IIIT were designed to introduce students to a gamut of realms in Computer Science. I was exposed to a wide range of topics from core courses like Operating Systems, Database and Computer
Networking to more specific topics like Information and Network Security, Wireless and
Mobile Computing and Data Mining. I carefully planned my journey through my undergraduate studies taking basic courses during the first two years and exploring my interests. Over the last two years of bachelor’s I worked to expand my knowledge in the fields of my interest, by taking up several graduate-level courses.
I was eager to put my knowledge to test and worked on the project ‘Smart Home and
PC’. Initially, the aim was to control a computer from a Bluetooth phone or PDA, later it was extended to control home appliances attached to the serial port. This project won first prize at the All
