Statement Of Purpose: Catholic Education
Greetings, I am currently a student at Florence Hallock, a public school on the north side of the city. I’d like to experience a Catholic education for the last three years of my secondary education, before I venture forward onto post-secondary. I’ve always been in public school however my curiosities arrived once a family friend raved on about Archbishop MacDonald. I was in grade seven at the time. Since then it has been on my radar as a primary high school that I’d like to attend to in the future. I’m quite ambitious and love to be academically challenged. After university I’d like to be an international political scientist. Politics has always fascinated me and how it affects every little thing we do in our day to day lives. I’m intrested …show more content…
His work with the small arms survey where they aim to build a safer environment for future generation by creating surveys for people about how they feel about weapons. The surveys and information found from them match my personal beliefs about weapons and how the public should use them if even allowed to. I use the information they find to create my own opinion on the subject with correct fact that aren’t biased. How closely that organization works with the United Nations and the European Union inspires me to do the same one day, to create an organization that I know can produce useful unbiased information to educate the general public about harmful things that happen in our society. Archbishop MacDonald’s extracurricular clubs such as the High School Model United Nations, Speech and Debate, and the social justice club, also interest me since I recognize that I want to enter the political scientist field in my near future. I reckon these programs will help me excel in that field. To get a PH.D in political science I’ll have to take classes such as methodology, game theory and econometrics or atleast have at least take intermediate-level statistics, multivariate calculus, and Linear …show more content…
Archbishop’s core subjects intrigue me. From what I’ve heard, and due to the entrance requirements, it truly will be stimulating. I would love to be challenged, and to look for new ways to solve problems. My current marks are in the 80’s. Social studies fascinates me. Without history we wouldn’t be as advanced in terms of our ideologies, cultures, and technology. As a part of an ever changing generations where we can connect with others around the world I’d love to look into your italian courses, Vatican city is surrounded by Italy, and they speak the language there. I’d like to visit the city at least once in my lifetime. With the italian courses I’ll get a personal experience, a new language that helps me communicate, and experience for Political Science, since my goal is to work with the UN or EU. Specifically I’d like to address poverty and how everyday people can make a difference. I got the idea when visited a food bank with my school in late 2014/early 2015. That is an experience that has changed my view about poverty and what I can do to help the unfortunate. After you’ve read this hopefully you will consider me as possible candidate, as after high school my destination is to enroll in the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies and finally meet my role model Dr.

Being active in National Charity League for six years, I have had the pleasure of working with many different philanthropies, my favorite being The Tualatin School House Pantry. Operating out of the basement of a church, the food bank helps to feed families in the community who are struggling financially. While my first few experiences at the food pantry were emotionally challenging, I found them to be very eye opening. I met many people from different backgrounds, yet they all shared the same hardship, the inability to afford food for themselves and their families. Wanting to do more for the recipients, I received training to be one of the personal shoppers.…

Throughout the past few years I have taken part in many projects and activities to foster education and global engagement. The most recent is my upcoming outreach trip to the Agnes Zabali Boys and Girls Club. This trip was planned by myself, 3 other education students and our faculty supervisor. The purpose of this trip is to provide support for the Agnes Zabali Boys and Girls Club (AZBGC). As Education students, we are taking this opportunity to provide daily lessons for the children who visit the Boys and Girls Club. We started the planning in September and we have put in over 120 hours since then in order to make this trip as beneficial for the children at the AZBGC. Apart of this planning, we have raised funds to help support the children's’ education costs. While planning for this outreach trip, I decided to partner with a local grade seven class to teach them about social justice. Their classroom teacher told me that with the recent media attention in the USA she is having difficulty teaching her students about justice and discrimination. We decided to partner together to teach both the Ugandan Children as well as the Canadian grade seven class about what it is like to live in a different part of the world. This partnership will entail writing letters to each other as well as creating a video about life in each of their respective locations.…

“Together we can help the poorest of the poor live a life of dignity, free from poverty.” You can help by; hosting a Caritas Kitchen, gather and host a Caritas Ks, donating to Project Compassion, organising your own fundraising event, or joining a sponsored event. Fundraising is also an opportunity to raise awareness about important issues, and a chance for the community to take part in a social justice action. Everyone who contributes is empowered, and able to stand in solidarity with the people for whom they’re raising funds. All the money raised during these fundraising events is used to provide the poorest of the poor all around the world, with facilities that they previously couldn’t afford. Just $5 can provide a tray of seedlings, so a farmer can diversify the crops they grow in their farm in Fiji, and $930 could provide two adult dairy cows for a farmer so his family can generate a stable source of income in Indonesia. $8500 could construct a borehole that would provide 500 households with access to clean water in Malawi, and $570 could provide two days of training for health centre staff so they can share new knowledge about childhood nutrition with local communities in Cambodia.…

Prior to this activity, I was skeptical that I would not learn anything beneficial or enlightening. After a little debate, I decided to move forward in watching the documentary Poor America. Although this was a short documentary, I felt that every second was impactful. This documentary was the perfect introduction to allow myself to develop within this series of multicultural activities. I felt engaged during the documentary because it showed several different people going through something similar that I have thankfully not had to experience in my life. Prior to this documentary, I do not believe I was aware of true poverty. A lot of the things that I had growing up I did not realize they were such a privilege. Although small, this experience as help me develop a better understanding.…

For the duration of my time at secondary school I was a member of my school's highly successful Anti-Bullying Council. This included a course on how to give counselling sessions to my fellow students, which I then did on a number of occasions.…

I chose my degree based on my experiences living in a multicultural household (Slavic/American), completing various career classes, and visiting multiple countries. My goal is to participate in the Russian Flagship program and learn a third language--Arabic. I plan to apply these languages to my degree; my educational aspirations include obtaining a bachelor's degree in business with an emphasis in international studies. This aspiration feeds off of my desire for travel. The struggle comes in figuring out if this is really what I would like to do. Other subjects that I have a keen interest in include: graphic design, architecture, neuroscience, music, etc. I hope that I will receive a mentor that can guide me in the right direction. Additionally, I aspire to…

My previous degree was Social Sciences for both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. I chose to study them because I had an interest and desire to have some influence over the lives of others and saw this is a possible means to help those suffering, especially through the social sciences I desired to have some impact in improving the lives of those less fortunate in Thailand. After a while, I realized this was a difficult field to have a real influence in and I might better achieve my desire by doing something more practical and hands on resulting in me looking towards…

One of the most devastating tragedies that both kills and makes people suffer all over the world is poverty. What many people do not realize is how widespread and serious this issue really is. In the United States one in seven households were food insecure last year which adds up to 17.4 million households and 16 million children facing the devastating effects of hunger. Getting the needed food and nutrition is critical to children's emotional and physical development and if no one tries to help who knows what will become of the millions of children who do not get the food and supplies that is required to live a normal life. Poverty not only effects children, but people in all parts of the United States from the most rural areas to big urban…

If there is one thing that I am very passionate about is aiding those in poverty. This is an issue that I feel very close to because I have had many experiences with poverty. I was born in the Caribbean island of Haiti which has many issues concerning poverty which has not been completely healed after the 2010 earthquake. When I was four years old my family immigrated to America and we still had financial struggles being in a new country. One thing that I have noticed is how much poverty puts a strain on a person’s health.…
