Statement of Purpose

When I was six year old, I met a dentist for the first time at a school health unit in xxx to extract on of my deciduous teeth. I was so scared of pain before the procedure. Fortunately, everything went well with no pain and great dentist attitude, which definitely made me interested to that field ever since. When I was an undergraduate student at King Khalid University College of dentistry, Rafi Togoo, a professor of pediatric dentistry, was a great mentor, very helpful, and meticulous guidance. I admired him the most, which made me to set my future plan to be a pediatric dentist as Dr. Rafi. I had a feeling that Pediatric Dentistry would be the best carrier choice to spend my professional life with. I believed that

On a daily basis, I worked hard like there was no tomorrow. Every day, I performed many type dental procedures and vary from simple to complex cases. However, I had never stop thinking of following my dream to be a pedodontist. Since then and as a graduate student, I’m learning and getting improved tremendously day by day. I have been given a huge opportunity to meet the highest expectation to be an excellent student and I believe I humbly earn it. As part of my postgraduate education, I conducted research about XXXXX. Gratefully, I shared my research experience as a poster presentation in two different national conferences, which were the 1st International Dental Conference at King Khalid University in 2015 and then in 2017 at the 14th Makkah International Dental …show more content…

One of the deep cleaning I observed was a patient with infection. I was extremely surprised to see the patient bleed during the cleaning. I think that visiting the dentist on a regular basis is very important because he or she keep their teeth clean and healthy. I could realize many patients discovered about their teeth’s condition through cleaning. I was able to see Dr. Sim perform many root canals, crowning teeth, and filling cavities during three days. Through shadowing I learned that being a dentist and dental hygienist are a very important position with lots of responsibility to their patients. It was time to learn again how important trusts between the doctor and patients. I believe that when patients develop this trust, they are more likely to comply with doctors’ recommendations and therefore get better care. This shadowing helped me realize the importance of good relationships between employer and employees. I can see they always had each other to rely on for help. I was impressed by the excitement and enthusiasm they had for their jobs, and for the company as a whole. I have not decided where to work after graduation. If I work, I felt inclined to work in such a pleasant work…

I often accompanied many of my relatives to their dental appointments as a translator and have always been curious about the work done in a dental office that cannot be seen during appointment visits. I was very lucky to be given an opportunity in high school to shadow a dentist for one day and personally observe various dental procedures that were performed. I have learned a lot just by observing the steps and seeing what kinds of instruments were involved. In applying for UB Dental Clinical Observation Program, I am looking for an opportunity to expand my knowledge and experience in a field that I strongly feel passionate about. The Clinical Observation Program will help me accurately understand the dynamics and responsibilities that this…

When I was about 5-years-old, I was the only child in my class that was not frightened of the dentist. In fact, I absolutely loved going to the dentist; I thought it was more desirable than going to the Science Center, which was a colossal deal for a child in my generation. Growing up, I watched people’s faces twitch with discomfort and a little bit of disgust as I explained that it was my ultimate dream to become a dental hygienist. “What if a child bites you?” “The human mouth is disgusting!”…

One of the biggest challenges I have faced was moving to America from Pakistan. The transition was difficult; I left childhood memories, family, and close friends behind. However, this portion of my life had a strong influence on the impact I want to have on impoverished populations. Seeing a dentist in Pakistan is a privilege that most of the families couldn’t afford. In those 17 years, it was rare for my family and I to have our teeth professionally cleaned or have a regular dental checkup. Dental insurance did not exist, and everything had to be, and still is, paid for in advance prior to seeing the dentist. Consequently, the majority of the Pakistani population have unsanitary dental hygiene. This sparked my interest in pursuing dentistry as a profession where I can help provide dental care to underserved…
