Why do we need courage? We need courage for many reasons. Without courage we wouldn’t be able to do anything. We would do the same things and not learn anything new. It would be the same thing over and over again. In the book “Staying Fat For Sarah Brynes” by Chris Crutcher it shows many reasons on why we need courage. Courage helps us live the best we can, help us do things we don’t want to do, and stick up for ourselves.

With courage you can live life the best way you possibly can. When Sarah didn’t get the courage to speak to anyone about her dad she had to live with him and deal with his anger. “I can’t ever go home again. My dad is getting crazier, and like I said the other day, there’s nothing to mean for him to do if he thinks he needs to” (Crutcher 174). If Sarah had the courage to speak up to someone about her dad she would’ve never had to pretend to not speak to get away from him.
For example when Sarah’s mom didn’t get the courage to stay with Sarah and she decided to run away she regretted that decision forever. “‘She said she knew she’d burn in hell for leaving, but it couldn’t be worse than what she’d gone through for the past fourteen years. She said she had made a number of suicide attempts first, but even messed those up; that leaving her daughter was bad enough, but not protecting her in the first place was unforgivable’” (261-262). If Sarah’s mom had the courage to stay she would of lived with one less big regret and a pretty clean
