Stereotyping

“A “stereotype” is a generalization about a person or group of persons”. Most people develop stereotypes when they are reluctant to obtain all of the information we would need to make fair assessment about another person, formulating a negative picture, filling in the blanks in many situations, which can lead to extreme prejudice and discrimination. Stereotyping is evident in our everyday lives, from our law makers to our law enforcement and citizens. As an example, being stop by a law enforcement officer for no reason, or going in a department store and being watch. Which begs the question, when it comes to our politicians and the laws that are pass or our judge’s rulings in court, all is based off one’s beliefs of a situation which all could
be a contributing factor. I believe our country is polarized and divided because of people across our country, have their beliefs about a nationality, race, gender, call of people which could be both stereotyping and prejudice in nature. The effects can be destructive and heartless and can end with violence and death. Just look at the more resent massacres and the Charlottesville’s riot, all are tragic and contributed to prejudice and stereotyping. The big question is, how do we fix this issues that has pledge our country for so long. I think for the most part it starts with communication, respect, and love for your fellow man. Maybe we can merge and “Act of Kindness” into the debate as a reference point. Lastly, if we look at what’s make our country great and how much we are alike, instead of focusing on our difference, I believe our country can and would reconcile their differences.
