Summary: Aire Libre Elementary School

As I referenced before my passion and the enjoyment I feel when I’m around children peaked my interest in this career field. I volunteered at an elementary school during the fall in the afternoons. In Aire Libre Elementary School the After the Bell program, kids stayed after school to do homework or get extra lessons in subjects they were struggling in. When I first started I mainly worked with first and second grader, the group was very small condensed with first and second so I interacted with each one. I made a connection with each student learning their strengths and weaknesses. I was then asked to help with one of the third grade classes as they were more rowdy and easily were distracted. The teacher allowed me to take individual groups
of kids and do games with them to learn the material. As well as have one on one moments where I evaluated their skills. Although, most of the time the boys did not pay attention they were easy to get along with and I was able to see their personalities by observing their actions and verbal sayings. From this experience I want to do community service with children who are having issues and be able to give them some comfort and be able to listen to their situations without feeling judged.
