Summary: The Chipotle Crisis
In late 2015, two outbreaks appeared in America. In the first, larger outbreak, 55 people infected with Escherichia coli O26 (STEC O26). 55 people are from 11states. 21 ill people were hospitalized. In the second outbreak, 5 people from 2 states infected with STEC O26 and 1 people was hospitalized (CDC, 2016). FDA along with CDC and local public health official investigated two outbreaks and found that most of the victims ate Chipotle Mexican Grill before. They think two outbreaks may relate to Chipotle Mexican Grill. Chipotle Mexican Grill voluntary closed 43 restaurants located in Washington and Oregon in early November (FDA,2016).

Chipotle have been in this position before. It have pre-event plan for this crisis (Nordrum, 2015). When the crisis happened, Chipotle responded the crisis immediately. Chipotle voluntary closed 43 restaurants and worked with FDA and local health officials to test the restaurants were meeting the requirement (FDA, 2016). Chipotle do additional cleaning for all of the closed restaurants and confirm that all employees were health in this incident. Not only also implement additional safety procedure for the closed restaurants, but also its 2000 restaurants in U.S. The CEO of Chipotle apologized to consumers on newspaper and promised “Chipotle would become the safest place to eat” (Nordrum, 2015). Chipotle posted a webpage on its website; the webpage shows what Chipotle on food safety and the safety procedures on food safety (FDA, 2016).
Chipotle did very well on this crisis. Chipotle is responsible for this crisis. Chipotle have pre-event planning and preparedness. When FDA noticed that the outbreak is relate to its restaurants, Chipotle closed it restaurants immediately and began to inspect it restaurants. It is reported timeliness on this crisis. Chipotle did hide any information about crisis, all the test result and certainty crisis information can see on FDA, CDC and its website. Chipotle is very sensitivity to consumer, the CEO of the company were apologized to consumers and promise to consumer it won’t happen

Chipotle Mexican Grill continues to grow rapidly and in 2006 went public on the New York Stock Exchange. By 2012, Chipotle Mexican Grill had over 1400 company-owned stores taking over as the number two Mexican fast food restaurant for total sales in the US market. Today the overall business environment for Chipotle Mexican Grill is very good. The company has grown by over 50% since 2010 and is seeing increases in revenue averaging between 18% and 20% each year. Since going public the company has seen a 4000% return in their stock prices.
