synopsis on sense of self
Synopsis On Sense Of Self.

I was born and raised in Nairobi,Kenya.I stayed with both my parents when I was young until the time I got to high school is when my father went to the United States to work. As far as family is concerned, I have two younger brothers. Being the first born, I have always had this pressure on me that I was supposed to set a good example for my younger brothers to follow. I have grown up knowing the importance of having education. Though both my parents never went to college they worked hard in giving us the best and just making sure that we got educated. I personally am an inventor kind of person. The myers-Briggs thing that we did in class was actually spot on and I am really impressed. I would say that the explanation given on the category I placed in (ENTP) was very much true of who I am. I have an ''expressive'' and outgoing social attitude. I am intensely curious and continuously probe for possibilities, especially concerning complex problems in every day life. I am also very reluctant to do things in a particular manner just because this is the way things have always been done. I always have an eye out for a better way, always on the lookout for new projects, new activities, new procedures. Most of the times I find myself ignoring the standard, the traditional, the authoritative. ''It can't be done'' is always a challenge to me and elicits a reaction of ''I can do it''.I have an entrepreneurial spirit and can cleverly make do with whatever or whoever is at hand, counting on their capability to solve problems as they arise, rather than generating a detailed blueprint in advance. I can succeed in a variety of occupations,as long as the job does not involve too much routine,at which point I become restless. I am non-directive in handling of others, and will take charge of activities only when forced by circumstances.

In the Myers-Briggs Type indicator/Jung’s Typology Test results I scored ENFJ, which stands for extrovert, intuitive, feeler, and judger. These results seem extremely accurate to me. I do enjoy spending time with people, talking to them, and trying my best to understand them. People fascinate me yet I find it difficult to open up to the people around me, which is a common characteristic among ENFJ’s. Being intuitive, I tend to look at the big picture rather than detail. I rely on my gut rather than my conscious. As a feeler, the decisions I make tie in with the values I grew up learning, leading with my heart and naturally gravitate towards people. Lastly, as a judger, I am super organized! Having a preference towards planned and settled activities.…

Society has placed various stereotypes on genders, ethnicities, and so on. There is yet another standard for women and men. John Gray’s assertion, “A man’s sense of self is defined through his ability to achieve results… A woman’s sense of self is defined through her feelings and the quality of her relationships” is partially incorrect. Through sources the Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates, Barbie Doll by Marge Piercy, and Professions for Women by Virginia Woolf, it will be shown that women are defined by their achievements just as much as men are, and men are defined by their relationships just as much as women are.…

It was very interesting to see how many of the traits described in my assessment that I possess. One trait which stuck out is when it stated when I am assigned to a task, I am eager to get started and get it accomplished. With anything I pursue, I really strive to stand out from the crowd by providing excellent results. I work very hard to complete things that I set out to accomplish. I love it when someone challenges me and tells me I cannot do something. For instance, in approximately six weeks I will be running in the Baltimore half-marathon. Now, no one has directly told me I will not be able to do it, but I know there are a few people that think I cannot. Seeing their face once I have completed it will make me feel very good, I love giving the look of “I told you so” to someone who doubts me. The same happens for work related things. I love being the person to figure out something that everyone else said it is impossible to figure out. These examples clearly show why my percentages were so high within the factors of job fulfillment (82%) and career ladder (87%). I enjoy being told that I am doing well at my job, it helps keep me going.…

    Sense of Self

"Sense of Self" is defined as a general conscious awareness your of your own identity. My sense of self, (as I have come to understand the term) is essentially what defines me and makes me unique. This could be a certain look, attitude, or personality trait. It could also be the way I view a certain person, thing or subject. Perhaps, my sense of self could even be my purpose in life? If thats the case, I would argue that my sense of self is something that has changed over time and will continue to evolve as I get older and my life is influenced by people, places and events. To me, developing my sense of self is crucial to living a satisfying and healthy life and is a journey of sorts with no real end. I started to develop my own sense of self when I was a child. I had the support of my family and friends while I developed new skills, realized my strengths and accepted my limitations. My parents taught me lessons which lead to the development of my own morals, beliefs and values and provided me with experiences and a good sense of judgement that carried with me while I began to distinguish myself as an individual. Personally, emotional experiences have had the largest impact on developing my sense of self. Good or bad, I have learned that when you are pushed to your limits, you get a better understanding of who you are. Specifically, I have learned from family and friends just how feelings can be used as a tool to help determine my needs or desires. For example; anger can be a response from being hurt or scared. This emotion allowed me to set limits on other peoples behaviour that I was not willing to accept and helped me realize what precautions to take to increase my feeling of being safe. Being able to control an emotion such as anger, and use it to effectively communicate and identify my needs, helped me establish a strong sense of self and a high level of self esteem. All in all I continue to develop my own sense of self even to this day and will continue to…
