The first cause of the Civil war were the economic differences between the Northern and Southern states. Document Two shows how states made their money. The Northern states got their money through manufacturing goods from factories, and the South…
Sectionalism played a major role in causing the Civil War. The North and South became very divided over slavery, which was the main cause of the Civil War. For example, the North wanted to completely abolish slavery because the people believed it was morally wrong. On the other hand, the South wanted to keep slavery because it was the only way their economy would survive, plus they thought they were morally wrong. The split between the two sides began way before the Civil War, over slavery, during the Constitutional Conventions, but eventually grew deeper as the country grew.…
The South had a vested interest in not allowing the federal government to interfere with their state rights. The South claimed the federal government is prohibited by the tenth amendment-which implies the federal government is limited to only the powers granted in the constitution-and that the federal government can't take away their "property," or in other words their slaves. This led to the idea of nullification,…

The American Civil War was a civil war in the United States between the Union and the Confederacy. This war was inevitable because of the economic conflict and the fact that both sides feared the other having more territories. To begin, the economic conflict was mostly due to tariffs. The text states, “When foreign businesses have to pay a tax on what they sell, they must raise the prices they charge, making locally produced goods more attractive to buy. The South had little industry.”…
This was made very obvious due to the fact that the Northern states were more industrial and urban, while the Southern states were more rural and agricultural. One of the biggest differences in the two regions economically was how interactive they liked the government to be in their work. The Southerners did not want the government to be a part of the agriculture, but the Northerners liked the government to keep a close watch on everything. The Southerners liked more freedom in the work field, and also liked to be able to regulate how they did things. The Northern region was more about the stability and organization that the government provided.…
A great number of accumulated differences between the North and the South led to the Civil War in the USA. The two parts of the country were developing at a different speed in the first half of 19th century, leading to a disparity in their economic situations as well as their social, cultural and political beliefs. While it is true that the US Civil War was triggered off by the issue of slavery, it would still be unfair to say that this phenomenon was the only cause of this war. However, slavery was the burning issue and the primary cause of the economic differences throughout the country, which eventually prevailed and led to a bloody conflict.…
If asked, most people would blame as the cause of the civil war the issue of slavery. This is understandable; many people in the U.S. at the time were against slavery, going to far as to help runaway slaves escape to the free north. But, while slavery at face value was a major factor, international politics and economics played a major role. Several factors, including the election of Lincoln, the raid on Harper 's Ferry, the Dred Scott decision, and, most importantly, the fugitive slave law, contributed to the growing rift between the North and South and, eventually, the Civil War.…

Their defense for their religious views of slavery being God’s plan for the nation was that Southerners treated the slaves as part of their Christian communities by teaching them about God and worshipping with them. They made their power over the slaves seem like power of parents instead of masters. While the North believed that God viewed slavery as morally wrong and wanted an end to it according to the Bible, yet they could not really prove this idea without discrediting the Bible. The North shared a common view of the Civil War being caused so American can recognize the fault of the founding fathers and get back to idea of freedom through a Puritan lens, not a naturalistic lens. This prompted the Northern view that God had a plan for a unified American and He was going to find a way to settle the war.…
The Tariffs of 1828, better known as the Tariff of Abominations, were disagreed upon by many states in the South, but only South Carolina invoked nullification ("The Tariff of Abominations"). The South believed that the states were sovereign, and therefore had the right to nullify federal laws that they thought were unjust. When nullification no longer worked, the states felt their rights were being violated, and turned to secession. The Southern states belief in nullification would eventually lead to South Carolina's succession from the Union, and the formation of the…
This bloody, cruel war was called, The Civil War. You would think that the only cause of The Civil War was slavery, but boy, oh boy, you are wrong. As free states they believed they could write their own laws without interference from the federal government.…
