1.3
1) What are the ethical issues in this case? I don’t think there are any ethical issues from the company in this case. They are concerned with recycling, reducing energy output and emissions. There core values are first before profit.
2) What keeps other companies from having the commitment to environmental sustainability that NBB has evidenced? Cost is the biggest driver when companies don’t want to commit to environmental sustainability. For most company’s it comes down to the bottom line with cash. If they have to use some of their profits to go environmental they wont. They don’t have the ethics on putting this first above profits like NBB. That is why so you third world dumping waste everywhere and not recycling.
3) Are you more likely to purchase a product from a company with a strong commitment to sustainability? Yes I would. If I know they are being ethical and looking at the future of natural resources I would. Next time I go to buy beer I will probably get Fat tire.
4) The environmental sustainability benefits of cans over bottles are well established. Should NBB make a greater commitment to cans even if it means forgoing the distinctive aspects of its bottles and the potential loss of craft beer status in customers’ perceptions? I think they should try and see what customers think. But if the cans aren’t there then go to bottles and try to make them more environmentally sustainable.
5) Are New Belgium Brewing’s Core Values and Beliefs sustainable? Or, will the company be forced by competition to revert to many of the traditional practices of other brewers? I would say it’s sustainable. They have been doing great for many years. As the years go on and with regulations more companies are going to have to take on NBB practices or be forced to be shutdown by the government.
