Name:
Date: March 28, 2013
Class: Primary 2 – 2A
Time: 12:25pm – 1:05pm (40 minutes)
Class profile:
Class 2A is considered as the “elite” class in our primary school. The class size has significantly increased since a lot of students were promoted to 2A, at the start of this school year.
These students have very good reading and writing skills, but when it comes to speaking, they can be quite soft spoken when speaking in front of class individually. They show more confidence and energy in speaking whenever we they’re doing pair or group activities, or when they play a drama/ESL game, together as a class. Most of the students are eager to participate and willing to try something. Proper classroom management schemes and routines are in place to maintain a level of organization whenever we do a high energy lesson.
This is a versatile classroom, which the school and I have set up together during the summer of 2012. We have round plastic tables and stools. We chose round tables to encourage easy interaction with the students. Since these tables are made of plastic, it is easy to move them aside whenever the students need space to create a big circle to do drama/ESL games.
Topic or theme: Asking questions to get to know someone.
Unit of work, introduction to the lesson
The LETs use the Longman Express textbook to teach students the basic structure and functions in English. When they come to my class, it is my responsibility to create activities that will allow these students to use the language that they’ve acquired, in an authentic and meaningful way.
Objectives or Aims:
1. To establish the students’ base-line knowledge in asking questions.
2. To encourage speaking amongst students by getting them to ask questions to one another.
3. To develop listening skills by giving the appropriate answer to a particular question.
4. To collaborate and interact with other students in order to restructure language in
