Team Leadership Memo
Team Leadership Memo As of recently the company has decided to add a department to help the company’s strategic plan to enter a particular market segment. My manager has informed me that I will be leading a team in the new department that has already been assembled consisting of (names). For our team to be successful, we have to accomplish efficiently the goals set by the company. I have developed a strategy on how to lead this team based on our diverse group of women. I believe with our different personality traits that we should be successful in our future team goals. I have evaluated each team member’s personalities along with my own to see what is going to benefit the department and how to put my strategy together. A quote that seems …show more content…
There are two traits that the team seems to share and they are ones that we need to work on to benefit the group. The first trait we share is that we are all introverted. We are shy and quiet and prefer to work alone. Which is one trait that could hurt us. We all need to work together. As well I want to encourage socialization and much collaboration within the group and outside the group. Getting feedback from other teammates and opinions from others will only benefit our group. Another trait is that we follow our intuition. We like to look at the whole picture jump into a solution and want to progress to the next problem without analyzing our decisions. I want us to be proud of our work and what we can accomplish together so with that we need to make sure that every detail is in order and what we all agree on. Therefore that said we have a few traits that are different which is actually going to benefit the team because it will make us more rounded. In the personality assessments it shows that there is a mixture of thinkers and feelers as well as judgers and perceivers. I think diversity in the traits is what makes good ideas and helps keep one another on our toes. Thinkers are more about getting the job done, unemotional, and know they are doing a good job. Where feelers worry about other people’s feelings besides their own and need that …show more content…
I wanted to make sure I understood everyone’s personality traits and the culture elements that needed to be taken into account. They say “leadership is the process of leading a group and influencing that group to achieve its goals” (University of Phoenix). So to be an effective leader I plan on developing a democratic style approach. The style is “a leader who involved employees in decision making, delegated authority, and used feedback as an opportunity for coaching employees”(University of Phoenix). I want team members to have the opportunity to express opinions on the project as well be able to try to job positions throughout the team but also know that I will be the one to designate the jobs to each member. I plan to follow a charismatic-visionary leadership theory. “A charismatic leader is enthusiastic, self-confident leader whose personality and actions influence people to behave in certain ways” (University of Phoenix). All of those traits are something that I possess and hope to radiate to the

SUMMARY: Our organization is adding a new department for the company’s strategic plan to enter a new market segment. As the manager for the new department for Team A, one must evaluate each team member to include myself. This evaluation should consist of any current situations that may arise, culture, and any urgent matters. To approach this in a sensible manner, one should use any principles or methodology along with any best practices or guidelines that can assist with coming to any decisions that may need to be made. Prior to arriving at any conclusions, meetings will need to take place with current management and the team to assess the plans put forth. These meetings with management should include a brainstorming session, while at the same time provide management the opportunity to critique and analyze any results, and therefore provide any valuable feedback that may come from these meetings. This will help to identify any strengths and weaknesses of the plans that are currently in the developing stage, thus allowing Team A to make the necessary changes to help ease the transitioning of the new department. In today’s world, teams are now becoming an intricate part of many organizations as they begin to shift toward team environments. As organizations shift towards team environments, it provide opportunities for multiple personality types to come together thus increasing the chance for success throughout the company.…

According to the self-assessment each member in group A took, the team is formed by individuals who in the majority possess Cautious Style characteristics and are influenced by the recessive styles of Steadiness and Interactive. As a whole the team can be defined as a goal or task oriented group whose members are very organized, prefer precision and accuracy when setting up goals for themselves and/or company. In order to be effective within our team, each member will be further analyzed and assigned to a job according to their characteristics which should help lead the group as a whole to reach or exceed expectations. Although there is no specific set of characteristics that makes a leader successful, it is the interpretation and approach of those same characteristics or skills that are used in various situations to effectively drive results.…

Because the majority of the team members have a cautious behavioral style, it is to my advantage to have these individuals break down each assignment and project from the beginning to the end. They are also task-oriented which will bode well for each project. Their strengths are attention to detail and follow through. Lauren has the dominance behavioral style and likes to be in charge that will help to keep the group on track. Those with the cautious behavioral style tend to work at a slow pace and are extremely over analytical. As the leader of the team, my plan is to encourage my team members and recognize them for their achievements. Laura, who is supportive, will provide the encouragement the team needs to complete each task. She will also be strong on follow through and following up with each team member to ensure they are on track to complete each assignment. She is the most people-oriented of the group, so I will rely on her to maintain stability and balance in the group. Each team member will lead a project or assignment each week because each person will share some of the four behavioral styles depending on the nature of the assignments. Each team member will explore the behavioral styles of her fellow team members to understand each person fully on how they think, act, and interact with one another. This will enable each person to…

Having a diverse set of people in a group can only improve it. Thinkers can look at a topic from all sides, which can help a team anticipate arguments and have an answer ready. Givers can be the voice of reason, helping the group stay on task when an organizer or thinker is stuck on a non consequential detail. Adventurers think outside the box, they may come up with the topic itself or can be counted on to liven up a stale presentation. Organizers are decisive; choosing what information stays, what gets tossed, where it fits, and how to best unify a paper. Like Henry Ford’s assembly line, each person has a role that has to be met for the product to be finished.…

“Most would agree that trait represents a disposition to behave expressing itself in consistent patterns of functioning across a range of situations” (Pervin, 1994). Many things play into the traits that we end up with as adults. These traits have a profound effect on how we interact with groups. Difficulty can always be found when a group is attempting to work together due to variances in personality traits. The key to working together as a group is to understand the differences and similarities that each group member possesses in order to reach the wanted outcome of the group. According to the personality assessments based on the Big Five taken by Team B the similarities in common are vast and the differences are minimal so working together should be easy. As the tests suggest, the team members are mostly agreeable and dependable so when a plan for action is reached then the team will fall in line to handle what needs to be done in order to reach the agreed upon goal.…

To begin, roles, needs, and diversity can be both beneficial and harmful to teams. Roles of members affect teamwork because it is possible to have members in positions that do not suit them. In other words, having a member that is not capable of performing the role they attained can hurt the team overall, causing further issues. But it can also be very beneficial when the right person is selected to the role that suits them because objectives will be met effectively and efficiently. Different needs of different members can start to become heavy for the team and therefore affecting the team in a negative way. It is important to establish what the team is there to do and how they are going to do it so that the members and their needs can fall into place. If an individual’s need is becoming an issue for the team, it needs to be addressed immediately so that it does not cause any further issues. Lastly, diversity is a necessity in groups because it will bring different perspectives, ideas, and strategies together that…

One of them would be attention to detail. Having the members be detailed in their time keeping will be important in analyzing the information for this project. Another important trait would be sticking with the program all the way through and not giving up. It also helps to have a leader who is very well spoken and who can present the group’s ideas verbally but also in a graphic format that the company’s leaders can understand. One of the most important traits though is being able to get along with all of the other members of the group. With this small number of people involved, there can’t be any arguing or taking sides. Everyone must listen to all sides and come up with a solution that all members can live with. Not all will be happy but all can live with the…
